Somnia

Part 4: Of Explosions and Old Men.

“I’m so hungry!” moaned Lina. “My feet hurt, it’s hot, and I need to take a bath!”

She walked up the side of the mountain (as she had eaten her horse several days ago) at a brisk pace. She hadn’t seen a village for over two days, and her supplies were running low.

“That kid better have been right about this place.” she muttered.

After several hours more walking Lina sat down for a rest. She could see her destination now, a huge castle at the top of the mountain.

“Why are castles always some where where no one in their right mind would want to go?” she whined again. It had been a long day.

Lina banged on the door. “Hey buddy! Let me in!” she screamed.

The door swung open in front of her, revealing a luxurious entrance hall lit with thousands of candles. Before her stood the largest man she had ever seen.

“May I help you?” he asked politely.

“Yeah. I’m looking for some sort of hot spring that’s suppose to be around here. And I’m hungry!” she cried.

The butler cocked an eyebrow at the red headed sorceress, and led her in.

“Wait here.” he ordered, and walked into the adjoining room.

Lina looked around in wide eyed amazement. The entire room was covered with tapestries. A golden chandelier hung from the ceiling, holding hundreds of candles.

The door that the butler had left through swung open.

“Master Edwards.” the towering butler introduced.

“Nice to meet you! My you're a little one!” Edwards shook her hand vigorously.

“I’m Lina Inverse.” Lina introduced her self.

“Lina Inverse! The walking force of destruction! The bane of all who live! How wonderful!” Edwards bubbled, “We haven’t had a guest here for, ohhh...”

“Fifteen years today, sir.” the butler finished.

“Fifteen years! My that’s a long time!” he laughed. “Don’t just stand there, Jeeves, let us feed our new guest!”

“Uhhhh, if you don’t mind me asking, why haven’t you had any visitors in fifteen years?” Lina asked.

“Cause’ the last guy died. Pretty gruesomely if I remember right.” Edward laughed and past into the next room.

“Is he...” Lina began.

“Nuts?” finished the butler. “Oh yes. He hasn’t been right ever since the mistress passed on. If you’re smart you’ll leave now.” he turned and began to walk into the other room. “If you're not, then follow me.”

Lina shrugged and followed him through the door. As much as she hated this place there was something she needed.

“How do you like your chicken, Ms. Lina?” Edward called from the opposite end of the table.

“It’s fine. I’m a bit thirsty, though.” she called back.

“Oh yes! Where are my manners? Jeeves! Bring us some water!” he snapped his fingers in the air. Moments later Jeeves came carrying a jug of sparkling water.

“This water is great!” exclaimed Lina after she took a small sip.

“Isn’t it, though! We have a natural spring in the courtyard. I haven’t had anything else for years!” he cried.

“This water comes from a spring, here?!” Lina leapt to her feet. “This is what I came for!”

“Wonderful!” laughed Edwards. “But now that you have what you want, what about me?”

“Huh?” Lina cocked an eyebrow.

Jeeves leaned down. “I told you you should have left.”

“I can’t just let you leave. The Master would not be happy at all. No, my dear, I’m afraid that you’ll have to stay here.” said Edwards. “Jeeves?”

“I am dreadfully sorry about this.” said Jeeves as he grabbed the small sorceress.

“Now,” Edwards smiled, “,shall we retire to my chamber now, or would you prefer to finish eating?”

“What?” Lina screamed.

“I said...” began Edwards.

“Darkness beyond twilight...” Lina began to chant.

Lina stood at the base of the crater that used to be a mountain.

“What a pervert.” Lina turned and began to walk the long path to Sairune, the precious water at her side.

Part 5: A Walk in the Park

“Thank you.” said Jayble.

“Your welcome, I guess.” replied the shopkeeper, “Can’t say I’ve had much call for Thalmanian herbs, though. What are you going to use them for?”

“One of the Master’s friends is very sick. We need these to help her.” Jayble smiled innocently.

“Well, glad to know I could help. That’ll be four hundred gold pieces.” said the shopkeeper.

Jayble groaned. He only had four hundred gold pieces left. “How am I going to get back?” he thought miserably.” With a heavy heart he handed over the rest of his gold.

“Have a nice day.” the shopkeeper called as Jayble left the store.

“Oh well.” Jayble sighed, “I’ll just have to tighten my belt for a few days.”

“I’m starving!” Jayble screamed at no one in particular. “I haven’t eaten in two days, and it’s still a long ride to Sairune.”

“You wouldn’t be starving if you hadn’t bought those herbs.” a ragged looking man stepped out in front of Jayble.

Jayble pulled his horse to a stop. “Excuse me, sir?”

“If you hadn’t spent all of your money on those worthless herbs you could have all the food you want.” the man smiled, showing his yellow, rotting teeth.

“I needed to buy those herbs.” Jayble explained, “A friend of my master is dying, and these herbs can save her.” Jayble paused. “How did you know I spent the last of my money on these herbs?”

“I know everything, boy. I know that your name is Jayble, you serve a freak named Zelgadis and you are trying to save Princess Amelia of Sairune.” the man’s smile melted away.

“How do you know all this?” Jayble asked.

“Never you mind, boy. All you need to know is that you can’t go back to Sairune.”

“Why not?!” Jayble fingered a knife under his robes.

“It would not be nearly as...beneficial to you. I can give you what ever you want, boy, just give me the herbs!”

“No, I gave Master my word!” Jayble protested.

“That fool can’t give you anything! I can make you rich, boy. Women, power, anything, just stay here!” the man’s eyes flashed with crimson light.

“Goodbye!” Jayble kicked his horse, sending it running past the strange man.

“You will regret this, boy!” the man screamed, his eyes blazing. “You will rue the day you refused me!”

Part 6: It All Comes Togeather

“Nothin’ like food to brighten your spirits! Aint’ that right, Jayble?” Lina spoke with a mouth full of food.

“Uh-huh!” Jayble nodded his agreement. After a week without food this feast was a welcome sight.

“Wonder where Gourry and Zel are.” Lina commented, tearing into a leg of lamb.

“I’m sure they’ll be here.” Jayble reassured.

“I know that! I’m just wondering what’s taking them so long.” Lina looked down at the very last chicken leg.

“Fight you for it.” said both simultaneously.

“We have arrived, brave one.” one of the fairy (?) people said.

“We are afraid that we cannot accompany you into the city.” said another.

“Why not? Amelia’d love to meet you.” protested Gourry.

“The people would not like our presence in their fair city...” the first fairy chimed.

“...They would think of us as monsters.” finished the second.

“Well, okay. Thanks for brining me back!” Gourry waved goodbye with his one good arm.

“You are welcome, brave one. Come visit us whenever you wish.” the two fairies laughed and disappeared into the trees.

Gourry turned toward the city. “I got to get this stuff to Amelia.”

Setting his jaw he strode forward into Sairune.

“We’re almost there, Kally.” Zelgadis (the only one who still had his horse) woke the sleeping girl.

“Huh?” Kally looked up sleepily.

“We’re almost there.” he repeated.

“Oh.” she pause, “Will there be food? I’m getting really hungry.”

“Yes, Kally, I’m sure Prince Phil can get you some food.” Zelgadis sighed.

“’Kay. You think we can help your friend?” she asked.

“I hope so.” Zelgadis said, sadly.

“Gourry!” Lina jump up from her brawl over the chicken. “It sure took you long enough to get here.”

“I got a bit hung up. But I got the stuff.” replied Gourry.

“That’s great, Gourry! Now all we need is for Zelgadiss to get...” her eyes fell on Gourry’s wounded arm, “Oh my god! What happened to your arm?” she screamed.

“Really, really big thing.” he replied.

“With big teeth, apparently.” commented Jayble, munching happily on the last piece of chicken.

“Yeah! This really nice guy helped me out, but he turned out to be a monster and I had to kill him. He hurt my arm pretty bad, but they farie people helped me get back home.

Lina put her hand to his forehead, “Gourry, are you feeling okay?”

“Hello.” Zelgadis’s voice drifted from the doorway. “I see I’m the last one here.”

“Hey, Zel!” cried Lina

“Hello, master.” Jayble bowed low

“Who’s the little girl?” asked Gourry.

“This,” Zelgadis beckoned Kally forward. “is Kally. She lost her home, so I’m taking care of her for a while.”

“Uncommonly kind of you, Zel.” Gourry laughed.

“Yes, well...” Zelgadis trailed off quietly.

“Hi!” Kally waved her hand at the group.

“Hello, Kally.” Jayble took her little hand in his, “My name is Jayble. I am master Zelgadis’s apprentice.”

“Hi, Jayble.”

“Hey, kiddo. I’m Gourry, and that’s Lina.” Gourry introduced himself.

“Hi Gourry. Hi Lina.”

“Excuse me.” Prince Phil called from the doorway. “But if you are all done introducing yourselves, perhaps you would like to save my daughter now.”

Jayble entered Amelia’s room with a vial of green liquid. Very carefully he handed it to Prince Phil.

“So all I have to do is take this stuff, and I can save Amelia?” asked Phil.

“Yes, and no.” Jayble answered. “You see, when you drink this you’ll immediately enter the dreams of the closest sleeping individual, in this case Ms. Amelia. Once there you’ll have to defeat whatever’s causing Amelia’s nightmares.”

“And then she’ll be better?”

“Perhaps.” answered Jayble, very quietly.

“What do you mean, “perhaps”?” shouted Phil.

“Well, you see, no one has actually succeeded in curing something like this before.” he said again, even quieter.

“What happened to the other people who tried?” asked Phil.

“They, uhhh, died.” answered Jayble, barely above a whisper.

“They all died!” Phil screamed.

“Yes.” Jayble inched his way over to Zelgadis.

“Well it doesn’t really matter now...” Phil began, lifting the vial to his mouth.

“I must protest, Prince Phil.” Zelgadis grabbed his arm. “Your people need you. If you die there will be no one here to rule in your place. I suggest you send someone else.”

“Like who”

“Me.”

“You!?”

“Yes, me.” Zelgadis snached the vial from Phil’s hands before he could protest.

“Master, I can not allow this!” cried Jayble.

“I don’t have time for this, Jayble.” Zelgadis raised the vial to his lips.

“But, master, why not send someone else? I would gladly go in your place! I simply can not allow you to throw your life away! I know that she is a good friend, but is she truly worth taking this much risk?” he protested.

Zelgadis lowered the vial and beckoned for Jayble to come closer.

“Yes master?”

“If I don’t make it out of this alive I want you to take Kally. Teach he every thing I taught you.” Zelgadis whispered.

“But sir...” he began.

“No buts, Jayble. Amelia is very important to me.”

“But...”

Zelgadis tilted his head back swallowed the potion...

...and was asleep before he hit the ground.

Zelgadis pushed himself off the ground. He was surrounded on all sides by an impenetrable mist.

“Where am I?” he muttered.

“Where do you think, Cold Heart?” a voice answered from the mist. “You are in Amelia’s mind. Her subconscious, actually.”

Zelgadis drew his sword, “Who are you?”

“That would be rather difficult to explain. But I will try. I am Amelia’s darkest nightmare, but also her most cherished dream.” said the voice.

“What?”

“I am what she most desires. I bring her both hope and pain.”

A shape began to form in the mist. Zelgadis raised his blade.

“Oh, put that thing down.” the voice chided, and with a wave of it’s hand the sword vanished.

“What the hell?!” cried Zelgadis.

The form was quickly taking a more definite shape. “Your weapons are useless here, Cold Heart.”

“Who are you?!” Zelgadis screamed again.

“Would you like to see?” the shape moved closer. Only when it stood toe to toe with Zelgadis did it reveal it self.

“What the living hell?” Zelgadis recoiled in shock.

“Suprised, Cold Heart?”

Before Zelgadis stood a mirror image of himself.

“Who...who...” stammered Zelgadis.

“I have already told you. I am her worst nightmare, and her most cherished hope.”

“But, you look like...” he began.

“You never thought that you could be Amelia’s worst nightmare, did you Cold Heart.” he said sadly.

“How?” Zelgadis regained his composure and strode towards Somnia.

“Let me show you, Cold Heart.” it snapped his fingers, and the mist before Zelgadis changed.

Zelgadis stared in shock as the scene before him unfolded. Amelia sat in the woods, glomped onto an expressionless Zelgadis.

“Why do you hang around me?” asked the phantom Zelgadis, his voice cold.

“I don’t know. Why?” Amelia asked.

“Because I wish you wouldn’t.” said Zelgadis

“W...why not? Aren’t we friends?” Amelia looked hurt, her eyes full of tears.

“No, we aren’t. I can’t stand you, I have never been able to stand you.” Zelgadis stood and brushed himself off.

“Zelgadis!” Amelia reached out for him.

“I hate you. Now leave me alone, forever.” The phantom walked away, disappearing into the mist.

Amelia fell to the ground, sobbing. Within moments she, too, faded away.

“I...I...” stammered Zelgadis.

“What’s the matter, Cold Heart? Does it hurt you to watch?” it shook it’s head..

Zelgadis turned. “I would never do that! I couldn’t hurt her like that!”

The thing sighed, “It is indeed unfortunate you didn’t tell her that when you had the chance. It would hardly have mattered, though. We are all doomed.”

“To hell with you!” screamed Zelgadis. “Ra Tilt!”

“You fool!” It screamed, phasing out only to repair beside Zelgadis. “You’ll kill all three of us!”

“What do you mean?” Zelgadis sent his fist flying at the strange beings jaw.

Phasing out again, it continued. “I am a part of Amelia, fool! If I die, then so does she, and you along with her! If you had any sense at all you would leave now.”

“Not without Amelia!” screamed Zelgadis.

“She has no chance, Cold Heart. I, too, am doomed. Leave while you can.”

“Why are you doing this?” shouted Zelgadis.

“I have no choice! It is what I am! I have no more control over what she dreams than she does.” It phased in again, infront of Zelgadis. “You caused this, not I!”

“What do you mean, I caused this?!”

“She loves you, Cold Heart. Her pain is caused by your refusal to return her love. Whatever happens now is not my doing.”

Turning on it’s heels it continued, “Do you think I want to see her die? I am a part of her psyche. When she dies, I cease to exist.”

“Then why continue?” Zelgadis growled angrily.

“I’ve already told you, I have no choice! I am nothing but a dream, completely at the mercy of Amelia’s subconscious.”

“How can I stop this?!” Zelgadis cried.

“You can’t! Unless the dreams are stopped we are all doomed. You can’t stop them, and I am forced to play a cruel part in them. We are doomed, and you with us if you do not leave quickly.” it turned it’s head away in shame.

“I will not leave without Amelia!” shouted Zelgadis.

“Why ever not? There is no use in throwing your life away on a lost cause. Leave while you can.” it began to dissipate.

“I can’t leave. I...I...love her.” he whispered.

There was a sudden flash of light.

Part 6: The Amazingly Predictable Ending!

“I think they’re coming to!” cried Jayble excitedly.

“What?!” Prince Phil leapt over to the sleeping pair. “You mean he actually made it?!”

“Looks that way!” Jayble laughed.

Zelgadis groaned. “What...happened?” he screamed, sitting bolt upright.

“Easy, Master.” Jayble placed his hand upon Zelgadis’ shoulder. “You did it! Ms. Amelia is returning to us!”

“Daddy?” Amelia slowly sat up.

“Amelia! My darling Amelia, you’re all right!” Prince Phil shouted, throwing her arms around her.

“What...happened? I feel strange.” she moaned.

“It will be all right, Amelia.” Phil comforted, “You had us worried there for a while, but your fine now.”

“You were struck down with a curse some time ago.” said Jayble. “But Master Zelgadis saved you.”

“Zelgadis! He’s here! Where is he?” Amelia demanded, almost falling from her bed.

“I’m right here, Amelia.” Zelgadis slowly made his way to the bed.

Amelia smiled at him, “It’s good to see you! I haven’t seen you for so long!”

Zelgadis smiled back. He turned to Jayble and Prince Phil.

“May I speak to Amelia, alone.”

“Uhhhhh, sure.” Prince Phil turned and left the room.

“As you wish, Master.” Jayble bowed and left.

“Amelia, I’m sorry.” Zelgadis sat down on Amelia’s bed.

“For what?” Amelia asked.

“For not saying this earlier. Amelia...I...” he began.

“You...what?”

“Amelia...I love you.” Zelgadis looked at the ground. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier. I just thought you deserved better than me.”

“Oh, Zelgadis!” Amelia flung herself at the chimera, “I’ve been waiting my whole life to here you say that!”

“You humans sicken me.” said a voice from the corner.

Zelgadis leapt from the bed, sword in hand. “Who’s there!”

A pair of crimson eyes appeared before him, floating in the air. “You may call me Malimshaer, human. I have come to take that which is mine.”

“Like hell you will.” Zelgadis leveled his sword, ready to strike.

“Do you think that you can stop me?” the eyes flashed and disappeared. Standing in there place was a huge man in black armor. His cloak billowed out behind him, and his jet black hair fell to his back.

“I don’t take kindly to meddling humans. You should have stayed out of this entirely.” Malimshaer drew a sword of black steel.

Zelgadis flung himself at Malimshaer. Steel clashed on steel as Zelgadis met Malimshaer’s sword...

...breaking his own blade in half.

“What the hell?” cried Zelgadis.

“Do you really think you can beat me with that toy?” Malimshaer struck Zelgadis with a gauntleted hand, sending him to the floor.

“Zelgadis!” Amelia screamed.

Malimshaer picked Zelgadis off the floor, raising him high into the air.

“Are you prepared to die, human?”

“Why are you doing this?” screamed Zelgadis.

“I suppose you do deserve an explanation before you die.” (do you ever wonder why villains actually do that? I certainly do. But as it wouldn’t make sense to have a pointless villain, here goes anyway.) Malimshaer flung Zelgadis to the ground.

“Why did you do this?” Zelgadis cried, pulling himself off the ground.

“I have need of this land.” Malimshaer explained. “Killing the heir to the throne was the fastest way to the throne. With Prince Phillionel grieving over the loss of his daughter my agents would “temporarily” take the throne. After my agents took their place we would implicate a neighboring kingdom in the murder of Princess Amelia. After both kingdoms destroyed each other I would be there to pick up the pieces.”

“Why?!” screamed Amelia.

“I would think it rather obvious. With me in control of the white magic capital of the world there would be nothing to stop the Mazuko race.”

“Jayble!” called Zelgadis.

“They can’t hear you. Not that it would matter.” Malimshaer again drew his blade. “Now, Zelgadis Greywerd, it is time for you to die.”

“They sure have been in there awhile, haven’t they?” Jayble commented, leaning against the wall.

“Yes.” Phil paced the floor.

Phil walked up to the door and knocked. When no one answered, he knocked again.

“Amelia? Zelgadis?” he called.

“Is there a problem, your majesty?” Jayble walked up.

“They’re not answering.” Phil reached down to turn the knob, but pulled his hand back violently.

“Damn!” he screamed.

“What is it?” cried Jayble.

“It burned me!” Phil held up a blistered hand. “Go get Ms. Lina, Jayble. And hurry.”

Jayble took off down the hall, leaving Prince Phil to slam his body against the door, only to be hurled violently into the adjacent wall.

Zelgadis crashed into the wall, leaving a deep dent.

“Flare arrow!” screamed Amelia.

“Don’t embarrass yourself.” Malimshaer brushed of the bolt of flame. Pacing forward he grabbed Zelgadis by the throat and lifted him high into the air.

“I gave you all ample time to leave.” Malimshaer’s fingers dug deeply into Zelgadis’s neck. “But you fools just kept trying.” he flung Zelgadis to the floor, shattering several planks of wood. “You defeated every thing I put in your way to try and stop you. You’ll pay for that.”

“Go to hell!” spat Zelgadis, pulling himself off the ground.

Malimshaer kicked Zelgadis in the ribs, sending him half way across the room, “Give it up, human. I can not be stopped by the likes of you.”

“Ra Tilt!” screamed Zelgadis.

The brunt of the spell slammed into Malimshaer, knocking him to the ground.

“Impressive, but not good enough!” Malimshaer leapt to his feet. “Dark Bolt!”

A bolt of deepest black hurled at Zelgadis, slamming into him with full force. Zelgadis screamed as the darkness overcame him, covering him in a sheet of darkest night. When the darkness past Zelgadis lay on the floor, twitching in agony.

“Zelgadis!” Amelia shrieked.

“Don’t worry. He’s still alive.” Malimshaer pulled out his sword, “But that won’t last long.”

“What’s up, Phil?” Lina charged down the hall, Gourry, Kally, and Jayble in tow.

“Help me open this door!” screamed Phil.

“O...kay.” Lina cocked an eyebrow. “Gourry.”

Gourry nodded. Pulling out his sword (one handed, of coarse), Gourry slammed into the door with all his might...

...only to find himself liying down at the opposite side of the hall.

“What...the hell?” stammered Gourry.

“It’s being held by something or other!” shouted Phil. “Get it open!”

Lina looked up and down the door. “Held, huh? Well I can fix that...”

Malimshaer stalked closer to the senseless chimera. He dramatically raised his sword high into the air.

“Fare well, Zelgadis Greywerd.” he chuckled dryly.

Suddenly the door exploded, sending slivers of wood flying across the room.

“Yee ha! I love this spell!” screamed Lina, holding the Ragna blade.

“Ms Lina!” cried Amelia.

“What!” Malimshaer turned around, sword poised.

Lina, Gourry, and Prince Phil stood in the shattered doorway, ready for battle. Jayble looked on in shock.

“Hey! Who are you, and what are you doing in Amelia’s room?” shouted Lina.

“And where’s Zel?” added Gourry.

“Meddling humans!” screamed Malimshaer. “You will die for your interference.

“Why do all you powerful Mazuko guys always say that? Can’t you just once shut up and fight?” Lina rolled her eyes.

“I’ll kill you first!” Malimshaer flung himself at the sorceress.

“I don’t think so!” Gourry met Malimshaer blade to blade.

Within seconds the battle was on in full. Gourry slashed again and again at the monster , Lina and Amelia hurled spell after spell, Zelgadis slowly pulled himself from the ground, Prince Phil flung himself forward with his multiple goofy attacks, Kally cowered in a corner, and Jayble wet himself. All to no effect (especially the later).

“Pathetic.” laughed Malimshaer, “Truly pathetic, but quite entertaining.”

“Hey Phil! How much do you like this palace?” panted Lina.

“What?! Why would you ask something like that at a time like this?!” screamed Phil.

Gourry, Zelgadis, and Amelia looked at each other in terror, and flung themselves to the ground.

“Huh?” Malimshaer was taken aback.

Lina smiled wickedly. “Darkness beyond twilight... (Come on! You all know the words!)

“My...castle.” Prince Phil looked on in horror at his once beautiful home.

“We’re alive aren’t we?” commented Lina, brushing herself off.

“Yeah, Daddy! Look on the bright side!” Amelia put in cheerfully.

“My...castle.”

“Oh drop it, will you!” cried Lina. “I could always have Giga Slaved him instead.”

“I suppose every cloud has a silver lining.” muttered Zelgadis.

“Hello there!” a familiar (and very annoying) voice came from behind.

They all turned.

“Xellos!” cried Zelgadis.

“Xellos!” cried Amelia.

“Xellos!” cried Gourry.

“Xellos???” Phil, Jayble, and Kally scratched their heads.

“Where the hell were you five minutes ago?!” screamed Lina.

“Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, sore wa himitsu?” Xellos shrugged.

Every one of them face faulted.

That night, at a local tavern.

“So Malimshaer wanted to conquer Sairune to further the plans of the Mazuko?” Xellos smiled.

“That is what he told us.” Zelgadis answered in a monotone voice.

“That’s...a really good idea. I wonder why I never thought of that.”

“What?!” screamed Prince Phil.

“Uhhhh, nothing.” there was a long pause. “So, uhhh, what’s everyone going to do now that the monster’s gone.” Xellos quickly changed the subject.

“Lina and I’ll be getting back to hunting bandits, right Lina?” Gourry smiled.

“Not with that busted arm of yours we’re not!” Lina cried. “I can’t have my protector protecting me with only one arm! It just wouldn’t look right!”

“Then what are we going to do?” asked Gourry.

“That’s easy! We’ll start our own reastraunt! “Lina’s” we’ll call it!” she cried.

“Open...a restraunt?” Zelgadis stammered.

“Why not? We both love food!” shouted Lina. Raising her fork into the air. “I vow, here and now, to start the most successful restraunt in all of Sairune! We shall throw down all those who stand in our way!” a ray of golden light fell upon her.

“I’ve got to get that hole fixed.” Bob the bartender muttered

“O...kay.” said Xellos. “How about you, Zelgadis? What are you going to do?”

“You know full well what I’m going to do. Jayble and I are going to keep looking for my cure.” Zelgadis muttered.

“Me too!” cried Kally.

“And Kally, too.” Zelgadis smiled.

Xellos turned to Amelia. “What about you, Amelia? Going to help your father rebuild the castle, I suppose.”

“No.” answered Amelia.

“No?!” Prince Phil fell backwards.

“No!” repeated Amelia.

“But...why not?” Prince Phil pulled himself off the floor.

“I’m going with Zelgadis.” she folded her arms.

“Amelia...” Zelgadis began.

“And there’s nothing you can say to stop me!” cried Amelia.

Zelgadis smiled warmly. “We’ll be glad to have you along.”

Later that night, with the moon shining down, an arm covered with dented black armor pushed it’s way out of the rubble. A set of crimson eyes burned into the night.
