The M4 Super 90 Combat Shotgun/XM1014 is a semiautomatic, gas operated, tubular magazine fed tactical shotgun. The Auto-Regulating Gas Operating (ARGO) gas system is a design that will be extremely reliable in service. Dual, stainless self-cleaning pistons located just ahead of the chamber under the barrel operate directly against the proven rotating bolt and eliminate the need for complex linkages found on other gas automatic shotguns. According to the manufacturer, the system is unaffected by fouling, requires little or no maintenance and functions reliably with all types of standard shotgun ammunition from low brass target loads to three - inch (76mm) magnum rounds. testing has proven that the XM1014 will reliably function for at least 25,000 rounds of standard ammunition without replacing any major parts.
