Matras Beach

Location

Bangka is an island of approximately 11,000 square kilometers located in the Republic of Indonesia, separated from the island of Sumatra by the Strait of Bangka.


Population

It has a population of about 666,000. Bangka boasts its ethnic integration as one of the best in the archipelago.


Land

Bangka has great scenic beauty. White sandy beaches and rugged rock formations line its coast. The beauty of Bangka island was the best kept secret until March 1988, when scientists and tourists from all over the world flocked in the island to observe the total solar eclipse. Many were impressed by the beauty of the island. Tourism gradually develops. Among the popular beaches are:

Economy

Chief products include white pepper, black pepper, and rubber. Bangka's chief mineral is tin, universally known as the Banka Tin. Indonesia is the third largest in world production after Malaysia and Thailand.
