Philips History

Philips are one of Europe's bigger electronics companies. They produce a large number of consumer electronics, such as audio sets, televisions, VCR's, mobile phones, coffee machines, shavers and light bulbs. They invented the audio cassette and the CD (with Sony). In the late 70's and early 80's they also produced computers, including the G700 and G7400 for home use, the P2000 for office use, an MSX compatible and the Yes (their non-IBM compatible PC). Philips did not make a lot of money with computers and left the market.

My Hardware


Philips Videopac G7000

Released in 1978. The only game console with a keyboard. This machine has an internal power supply and two fixed joysticks. It was produced in France. In the USA this console is known as Magnavox Odyssey^2. This machine was also released as Schneider Videopac 7000.
There was also the rare G7200, which was a G7000 with built-in b/w monitor.

Philips Videopac+ G7400

Released in 1983. Improved version of the G7000 console. It has a power switch, two detachable joysticks and an improved keyboard. It plays the G7000 Videopac carts as well as the G7400 Videopac+ ones. It was also produced in France. In the USA this console is known as Magnavox Odyssey^3.
