ANIME

The Anime is a bit of a letdown; out of the twenty-something volumes published, only volumes 1-6 had been made into an Anime as OVA. Not that you blame them. The story itself is in parts, and each part involves a different story which fits together like a jigsaw puzzle into the whole picture. This is hard to do in the Anime instance, where the story has to be divided into episodes and each episode has to be of understandable content on it's own. The fact that 3x3 EYES has a complex plot doesn't help, and so they had to change the storyline and cut out parts of the manga to accomodate. Like other Yuzo Takada manga-to-anime conversions, people who haven't read the manga will scoff at it.

So it doesn't work very well at all. The anime loses some of the action parts and detail in the manga, and trivialises the plot by bringing up monsters which Parvati can blow away in one second to get a climax in each episode. To say a bit about the animation quality; it isn't bad, but I've seen better. An example of the rare cases where the Anime is not as good as it's Manga counterpart - 3x3 EYES is a story better seen on paper than on screen.

3x3 EYES (Parts 1 - 2) - Charts the first two volumes. Yakumo and Pai meet, go to Hong Kong, meets everyone, have a bit of a fight, and ends with Pai disappearing when she was challenged to fight with Shiva's (Kaiyanwan) Wu, Benares.
3x3 EYES: Seima no Densetsu (Parts 3 - 6) - The story from manga volume 3 to 6 (well, how about that!). If it wasn't for the familiar characters you'll think you're watching the wrong anime. This story is about Ayanokouji Pai, a normal 16 year-old teenage girl looking for the love of her life but ends up running into Yakumo. She soon finds out that she is not human, and goes to Tibet to find a way to get to the Triclop's home place, the Seichi. There they run into Benares (again), who they defeat yet at a loss.
