During a civil war 140 years ago
which ended the Bakufu period of Japanese history,
there existed in Kyoto a samurai
of legendary status, "hito-kiri Battousai".
A cruel and fearsome killer, he vanished,
along with others, without a trace
at the end of the Bakufu period
and the dawning of a new era of history;
the Meiji.
As time flowed, his name came to be
associated with the strongest
and most powerful warrior
to have ever existed.
And so our story begins
in the 11th year of Meiji,
in downtown Tokyo...
