ANIME

The Anime was pretty well-drawn (or animated), but being the "animisation" of a fighting Manga, you can expect episodes of more talking, glaring and making expressions than actual action. The time in the each 40 minute episode should be, on average, be divided into 10 minutes making conversations, 5 minutes staring at the enemy, 5 minutes of shocked facial expressions and saying "What happened?/What's going on?", 5 minutes of narration, 5 minutes of standing around, and finally, 10 minutes of action.

But then this is relatively mild if you have seen the Dragon Ball Z Anime; how I sat through that was a wonder. The Anime follows the progression of the Manga pretty closely, exaggerating some things and cutting out others, but basically it's the same. If you can stand watching or afford Anime of fighting Mangas, then I would recommend the Anime over the Manga because the action sequences are better and ofcourse, it's in colour ^-^. But then if you are like me, who watched the Anime just to see Kurama change into Youko, then that's even better.

Fortunately, Yu Yu Hakusho's characters don't resolve everything in fist fights, so there are actually quite a few amusing episodes. This especially occurs during the Sensui episodes, when humans started to develop strange abilities able to beat Yuusuke without lifting a finger. This is where Kurama's brains becomes extremely useful. You also get to see the characters doing things they would not be caught doing in the manga; like poor Hiei to the left. I can't imagine Hiei doing that in manga format; it kind of wrecks his "cool dude" image. The anime was also very popular; having aired twice on TV.

There had been three movies produced, each one with nothing to do with the original story. I only know the name of one of them, which is:

YuYuHakusho Movie 2 (Meikai Shitou Hen) - This is about Meikai, a world which has been sealed away at the beginning of time. When Meikai finally breaks loose from it's prison and floods Reikai, the detectives come to the rescue with the help of Botan's friend, Hinageshi.
