Mamoru has the most personalities that I've ever seen. When we first meet Mamoru he seems to be an aloof college kid with a desire to bother li'l junior high girls. Sounds a li'l strange, doesn't it? He's not yer average Joe Shmoe. But, he and Usagi become boyfriend and girlfriend after he finds out that she's his true love from thousands of years ago, the Princess of the Moon. Okay, now that we're done with the bare basics, here comes some really strange stuff :
Mamoru lost his memory in a car crash when he was very young, he didn't know anything of his past, and had to live in orphanages until he was old enough to afford his own place. In the meantime, whenever Sailor Moon was in trouble, he'd change into Tuxedo Kamen, whether or not he wanted to. As soon as he found out who his true love (Sailor Moon) was, he was kidnapped by Beryl and forced to be her boy toy. Usagi managed to bring back his memory during the final fight with Queen Metallia, but unfortunately, Mamoru was hit with a sharp shard of something through his back (they conveniently leave this out of the dub version). He ends up almost dying, but survives. |
After the final battle, he and all the other Sailor Senshi lose all their memories of the Negaverse and the great battle they had with them. But of course, living in innocence is too good to be true, and another group of weird aliens come to suck energy out of earthlings. The senshi all eventually regain their memories, but Mamoru's soul protects Sailor Moon as the "Moonlight Knight" (see? weird stuff!). Mamoru however, has no clue of what is happening until the next big battle with the bad guys. Then, he and Usagi are together for about two episodes when he breaks up with her. He doesn't want to, but he gets horrible nightmares from some unknown entity (who happens to be his future self, King Endymion of Crystal Tokyo), warning him that unless he stays away from Sailor Moon horrible things will happen to her. Usagi, of course is heart-broken and can't figure out what she did to make Mamoru mad or what she needs to apologize for.
This saga goes on about once a season. I of course, am too lazy to write 'em all at once (which is probably better anyway because my writing becomes rather lacking when I type for hours on end). But I've counted six experiences when Mamoru loses his memory, has Usagi save him, and then gets his memory back. Then they're both happy for awhile, and then the cycle repeats itself.
