Okay, these are the Inner Senshi, which basically means that they were the first ones around during the first two seasons of Sailor Moon and that they're a bit "weaker" than the Outer Senshi (with the exception of Sailor Pluto of course ^_^). They are: Moon, Mercury, Mars, Venus, and Jupiter.. Ok, anyway, on with the show ^_^
Sailor Moon/Princess Serenity/Neo Queen Serenity/Tsukino Usagi/Serena
Hmm....okay, Usagi is most often described as a whiny, gluttonous crybaby. And, in the dub version, I guess you could probably say that. I personally like her, so of course I'm going to have one of those "whacked" perspectives. I agree, she gets waaaay too emotional sometimes, but all in all, I think she's more of a good friend above anything else; she really cares about people. And, considering the circumstances that she was under, she controlled herself pretty well. I mean, what would you do if all of a sudden a monster came and began to suck the life out of your friend? Poor kid, she's only fourteen and already she gets thrust into a complex situation where she has to say a phrase and transform into this bad guy beating super heroine. On top of this, she finds out that she's the Moon Princess. Now how's that for
a pre-mid-life crisis?
And of course, what would a show like this be without a warped love triangle? (warning: Here comes another one of Aidan's lame attempts to find a connection when there is none) Her predestined boyfriend and husband is none other than Mamoru, a 17 year old college student who has a major 'tude in the beginning of the season. To make it more confusing, in the first series he was dating Rei. And Usagi, being one of the major boy-crazy characters on the show has a crush on Tuxedo Kamen (Mamoru's alter-ego) and Motoki (one of Mamoru's classmates). And in addition to all this, Umino (Melvin) has a total crush on her, which he thankfully grows out of. Sounds like a soap opera doesn't it? In the very end of all the series, she and Mamoru stay together, although they do go through quite a few adventures on the way.
Sailor Mercury/Mizuno Ami/Amy Anderson
Well, Ami, quite frankly, is the brains of the bunch. She's the strategist, the one who takes time to think about how to the consequences and advantages of doing things. Most of her life, she lived as the genius girl on the outside that people (cruel beings that they are) made fun of to boost their
own self-esteem. But when she entered Usagi's school in jr. high, everything turned around as Usagi made a special effort to be friends with her. As she grew to know Usagi and later the other senshi, she became a lot happier, finally able to have friends who didn't want her around simply for her ability to whiz thru their homework. Ami's a cool, calm, sensible person, and she looks at everything closely before deciding on what she wants to do.
Although she her attacks look to be the weakest I've ever seen, I find them interesting nonetheless (that obsession with water related things, eh?). But, the fact that she probably matches Neptune's strength
would probably disprove that image (now I'm rambling..). Hmm...getting back to the original subject...
Ami has a very small part in the love triangles that go around in this anime, she does have a couple near romantic encounters with Ryo (Greg)
Sailor Mars/Hino Rei/Raye Hino
Rei is the bossiest character in the anime. Deep down she's a good, caring person, but most of the time she's really obnoxious. She's pushy, overbearing, bossy, and annoying. But she's also always there for the senshi in times of crisis. Rei is also reliable, you're able to count on her when it really matters. And when things are just too weird, she can always try to figure out what the root of the weirdness is by using her psychic powers (really!). But.. she does have a bit of an ego problem. There are several occasions where she makes it more than obvious that she wants to be leader of the Sailor Senshi.
Although she's pushy and bossy, she does make a good coordinator, able to pull things together no matter what kind of situation you give her. She's more focused on keeping everyone together and safe than anything else. Also, she's an awesome fighter (studying karate at a young age). She's got really spiffy powers too (or at least the phrases for them ^_^). I used to bug my sibs by running around the house chanting, "akuryou taisan!" Rei has a short fuse and a fiery temper, causing her to be overly-violent sometimes (beating Yuuchiro with a broom all the time, ouch!). Overall she's pretty kokkaii, her good side keeping her temper in check.
Her part in the love triangle is that she has a crush on Mamoru, and goes out with him for a good portion of the first Sailor Moon season. And even after he and Usagi get together, she's still kinda jealous about their whole relationship.
Sailor Jupiter/Kino Makoto (Mako)/Lita
Mako runs into everything head-first, without thinking of the consequences. She seems to get over her head sometimes, mainly because she thinks with her fists before she thinks with her mind. Mako is a very sweet, very caring person nonetheless. She absolutely loves baking and has a gift for it, and tries to cheer people up by using this gift. She always seems to be the most protective of Usagi (although Rei is Usagi's best friend). She was first befriended by Usagi when Usagi came over after seeing Mako's food! Mako is an excellent cook; she bakes, Usagi eats.. Besides food, Usagi and Mako also share another very strong common bond; they both have crushes on Motoki ^_^. Extremely friendly and cheerful, Mako almost always has a smile on her face and a kind thing to say to someone to make them feel better.
Mako's powers are also arguably the most powerful of the Inner Senshi's powers. Her lightning based powers are very awesome to watch (esp. her Thunder Dragon ^_^) She doesn't really have a strong influence on the love triangle sagas going around, she just has an unbelievable ability to fall in love with every guy who comes her way. She really has a lot of problems with being a "big" girl (meaning she's tall and strong, lots of muscles). I don't know how that's s'posed to make an effect on anything, but in the Japanese version of SM there are a lot of jokes and comments regarding her size and weight are addressed.
Sailor Venus/Aino Minako/Mina
Minako, hmmm....Well, she was actually the first Sailor Senshi ever to exist. She lived in England, and was thirteen when she was "discovered". She remained Sailor V until she was sixteen. Then she came to Tokyo and amazingly, became fourteen! Hmm...wonder how she did that.... Anyway, she's also the leader of the Sailor Senshi. I know this sounds weird, but the Moon Princess is the leader of the Kingdom composed of followers of the Princess, and Venus's (the planet's) senshi is the leader of her protectors, the Sailor Senshi. Minako is an all-around good person. She doesn't like people to be unhappy, and she loves beautiful things. Minako is waaaay friendly, always trying to make people comfortable. She's also remarkably like Usagi. Aside from looking nearly identical to the odanga-headed girl, she's always late for something or other. And, she's a bit of a ditz to some extent. Somewhat scatter-brained, she can freak herself out really easily by accident. Just like Usagi's guardian, Minako's guardian cat, Artemis, gets extremely exasperated with her whenever she does something ditzy (pretty often, but not as often as Usagi). Minako uses attacks that deal solely with energy.
Minako is my fave senshi out of the Inner Senshi. I love her powers. I know that sounds repetitive, but they're really awesome. She's such a nice person, the one who goes around making sure that no one's sad or lonely, and if they are, she tries to cheer them up. She's also got an avid interest in sports. She's an over-all good person, kind, compassionate, and considerate.
She doesn't enter any love triangles that I've heard of. As far as I know, she's only had one true crush, that was in England and ended in heartbreak. She goes absolutely ga-ga over the Three Lights in Sailormoon Sailor Stars, but I don't think she's as focused on love as she is on being friends with people.
Rini/Chibi-Usa/Sailor Chibi Moon
Hmm..the word "brat" is often comes to mind when describing Chibi-Usa.... She's basically just your average 7-9 year old little sister. Chibi-Usa's annoying, but I think she goes into her annoying act mainly to tease people. She loves her folks and friends too much to be truly annoying, and if you think of her the way you think of your little sibs (or your best friend's little sibs, or anyone's little sibs for that matter), then she totally fits the mold.
