Thoughts on Bitches Brew (by Miles Davis) -This album changed the way I listened to and even thought about music It really opened up my head to all the possibilities in music and it is the album that helped me start to get rid of my musical prejudices -The heart of the album is improvisation .. . . most of the music on there was created in the moment -There is form in the music, but it is so simple and so elastic it is almost non-existent This showed me that simplicity is the real key to complexity -This is DENSE music! With as many as 12 people playing at the same time, the density and texture approaches orchestra levels, yet it never sounds too cluttered -Not only is form elastic, but everything else is too: rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, time itself . . . to paraphrase Miles, everything's "lose and tight at the same time"
