The next 4 poems were written for the author's husband, Doc H. N. Navarro, when he was sent by the Philippine government to Singapore in 1967 for specialized training in public health.

Since You Went Away

by Luz D. Navarro

The glinting speck of your plane
Vanished in the horizon,
Wordlessly we turned to go,
For the sad trip home.

Since you went away
Our home is a hollow shell
Even your children are subdued of laughter.

My thoughts of you
Are long as evening shadows;
Please come home soon,
Let shine the sun again.
