Winant, Donald M. | My father, CDR Barent P. Winant,
III, USN, was commanding officer of Harbor Clearance Unit One (HCU-1) at
Subic from 1967 to 1969. As his dependent, I came along for the ride at
the age of 12 years (I'm now 43 years). Spent my free time as a member
of Sub c Bay Swim Club at Kalihan Officers Club and pool (my swimming coach,
Lt Michael B. Strauss, USN, MC). Also spent plenty of time snorkeling and
sailing in the bay, and chasing the monkeys in the jungle. My time in Subic
changed my view of life dramaticall , especially considering the big event
that brought us their.....the War in Vietnam. Lots of water under the bridge
for me these past 30 years: My dad passed away in 1994, got married and
divorced, father to two beautiful children (Reilly & Shannon), did
y time in the USAF (Capt. Winant) at Edwards AFB, Calif), now currently
a DoD employment at the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) here in beautiful
San Diego. You can write to me at: Donald M. Winant, 31301 Calle Del Campo,
San Juan Capistrano, CA/USA 92675, Phone: (619) 553-0673, HM: (949)493-7243
Sincerely, Don Winant
