So you want to know all about me???
Tony Keyes Personal Profile
I am very, very boring.
But really, I mean what could I possibly tell you about myself that would improve your day,,,
I was born in Dublin, Ireland on the 24th of September 1968.
The building where this historic event took place has since been torn down.
On that day, The Beatles were number one with "Hey Jude", but that was replaced the very
next day by Mary Hopkins with "Those were the days".... a rather pessimistic prophesy
of my contribution to society. Following a childhood which involved very little
international jetsetting with world famous supermodels (the Christian Brothers were
rather strict) I suddenly woke up one morning in the middle of an earthquake, and
realised that I was now living in Japan.
Frighten your neighbour's children with a Photo of ME!!
During the course of the following years I blended in well with the natives and learned a
lot about their society and ways of thinking (well I was mad to come here in the first place!!)
to such an extent that an American acquaintance compared me to "Dances with Wolves".
One part of my integration into Japanese society was to buy a Camera.
I started out on the simple stuff, with a little Fuji Compact, but gave this away in favour
of a Pentax with a 105mm Zoom lens (size doesn't matter, its what you do with it!).
The departure of a friend for his homeland six or so years ago meant that a Canon EOS 10
was suddenly fatherless, so I took the little darling under my wing, and now love it like my own son.
For those who are interested in such matters, I use mostly CANON Lenses and a Speedlite 540 Flash,
and Kodak film (mainly ISO400, or TMax 3200 for the Sumo pictures).
Thanks to a job which occasionally involves driving around Europe in luxury cars, I have
had the opportunity to visit, photograph and drink beer in many European cities,
and those are on these pages for your perusal. I have a total of over twelve thousand photos from
over the years, and it has been tough deciding which photos to include.
I have lived in the small but pretty town of Kawagoe in Saitama which is just north
of Tokyo,Japan (as opposed to Tokyo,Minnesota!). This used to be an outpost of the old
Edo City (which is what Tokyo was called before the Emperor moved up from Kyoto),
and holds a fascinating festival in October of every year, which involves EVERYBODY
walking aimlessly up and down the street. If you are ever in the neighbourhood I can be found
at the counter of Simple Simon

"Wait a minute, what about that name?" I hear you cry...
My big brother was called "Squeezy" due to a tremendously imaginative wordplay on our family name, and
since I was smaller than him I became "Squeezette".
Fortunately few people used it, and stuck to more traditional, insulting appelations.
