Karatsu Kunchi
Karatsu Kunchi is the name of a festival that takes place in Karatsu every year
in November. It is a celebration dedicated to the gods that guard the Karatsu
citizens and has been held since more than three hundred years. 14 festival floats are
paraded around the streets while people are having a good time.
The rest of the year the festival floats can be seen in The Hikiyama Exhibition
Hall in Karatsu. The giant floats are made of wood and papier-mache and are in shape
of lions, whales, sea breams and war helmets.
