A record of the past; a reference for the future
03.08.04 02:45 EST : Hackin' through the work...
Well, I'm more than halfway through my second-year Computer
Science program, and damn, I just don't have time anymore.
As of this writing, I've just about spent the last two hours
working on my CS241 final assignment, and it's a nasty one.
On to recent news..
Got a job at Research in Motion. Get to use a Blackberry (you
know, those damn expensive things that only execs get to play with,
and costs a fortune for airtime?), so that'll be fun. Of course, I'll
look pretty rich if I show that thing in public, even if it's in my
pocket --- which is why my other pocket is occupied
with....deterrence. Yes, let's go with that. "Competitive pay".
Hmm....I hope that's a lot. That's still about twice what my buddies
have to work for during this summer, that's for damn sure. Now if only
I can figure out Voice over IP....
I need a method of...ahem...stress relief. Since weapons are
forbidden in res, I now take archery, and have regular "fight nights".
Steve holds the record for getting his ass kicked the most. Hey, he
was the one who insisted on the two-on-one of me and Aaron against
him. A couple of weeks ago we decided to up the ante and bring shinai
(read: bamboo kendo practice swords. They hurt. A lot.) to bash each
other in. Minor injuries ensued. 'Tis but a scratch! En garde!
(crouches in gatou-su stance and charges)
Off-campus housing is a real possibility, and may have to live
far from "home". Thus, I need a laptop. Lookin' at the Centrino line
still (integrated networking and long batter life...sweet), but my
wallet is skeptical, as am I. I'm forced to up my budget to about
$1500, which means capital expenses (read: buying real expensive
stuff) is pretty much shot.
We (ie. Steve, Aaron and me) checked out this place that
supposedly taught Shaolin kung fu in Waterloo (gimmie a break, aside
from Waterloo students and tourists, there are no Asians here,
much less authentic kung fu). After sitting down, we realized that the
si fu is a short white woman, whose idea of "Shaolin style kung
fu" is a 5-motion kata (sequence) of the 5 animal styles (White
Crane, Black Dragon, Leopard....and I can't remember the other two off
the top of my head). 5 minutes later, I realized that us three could
probably literally rush and take down the whole class by ourselves in
five minutes. So much for that.
Airsoft? Yeah, right. If I'm getting a laptop, then Airsoft is
put on hold for...say, at least a year.
I've also been thinking of Sony's PSP vs Gameboy Advance SP. With
the PSP delayed until Q1 2005 (That's first quarter of 2005, i.e.
January to March), I'm regretting not getting a PSP earlier and
wasting time with Advance Wars 2, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and
Sword of Mana. Damn.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield: Athena Sword (phew!)
still hasn't come out, and players have been screaming for blood. I've
also figured out that my low framerates are probably coming from not
having a sound card; this means that the CPU is also processing the
sound and thus lower performance. I need a sound card to take this
unnecessary load off.
In the news...
China sold water to Liberia, and in return, Liberia boycotts
Taiwan. Interesting.
US Army has more or less dropped the OICW as their mainstay
weapon for the next decade. About friggin time, I'd say...the beasts
were huge, and must cost about five grand each. Try going stealth with
that sucka. Instead, they've opted for a water-gun version of the HK
G36, and they call it the XM8. No, I'm actually serious. At least it
won't jam.
US Army also scrapped their Comanche stealth chopper and Crusader
artillery, citing high costs. I say, no shit, of course it's
expensive. More wasted money that the taxpayers have to fork over.
Morons, should have thought of that.

11.26.03 23:38 EST : All Good Things
to an End...?
Well, this work term is fast coming to an end and soon begins
another term of work, study,
and therein the cycle begins anew. And after...a little over a month,
I shall be back competing against some of Canada's best for jobs. I
know, it sounds pretty cool, and I must sound pretty
smart, but dammit, IT'S HARD! So anyway, it's more than likely that I
won't be able to update as often as I did during the work term, but
it'll be longer still.
First, I want to thank Derek and whoever his buddies are, if any,
for his constant patronage and loyalty to this site. It's an odd thing
for a guy to regularly view his cousin's progressively insane cynical
ramblings. That, and the other people who visit this site. Please,
send an email to me: andrewseto at hotmail. There MUST be someone out
there other than Derek who's a constant visitor to this site, and I
want to hear from him or them. Hell, if you're a girl, let me give you
my private line....no I won't quite do that yet. =) Anyway, I'm
looking for more opinions, and Derek rolling around on the ground
laughing at my cynical remarks isn't enough. Call it that I need
assurance, sure, say that I'm emotionally fragile and that I must
express my feelings on several kilobytes of free-flowing electron
data, and I'll have to kill you. Now ignore what looks like a pile of
leaves on the roof of that house across the street with a straight
line of sight. That's not me with a sniper rifle. Go back to your
games, and sit still.
Where have all the old ramblings and updates gone? Into that new
Old News section (wow that was a paradox!) so that this page loads up
faster...and so I can bullshit longer. (YES!!)
Well, school (where I work, anyway) had a magazine fundraiser.
Electronic Gaming Monthly for $32.07 CDN for a year? I'm in. Hell,
when I'm in Waterloo and between classes I need something
to keep me sane.
A laptop would be good, but must be powerful to watch anime on,
and within my $800 budget. But then there's this here Centrino Mobile
Technology, and according to the benchmarks, power and battery
life have been far better than both the Mobile Celeron and the
Pentium-4 Mobile series. Well, right now these are about $1799 so I
guess I'll be waiting for a while.
Now, current events.
Anime night at my place, we ended up watching One Piece. Not bad,
but I really can't think of one good reason to watch it. Animation of
characters look like crap, the backgrounds are nice. Really reminds me
of Final Fantasy VII. Still waiting on those shuriken.
Games. Right now, playing Command and Conquer Generals: Zero
Hour. I love it, but the Americans are WAY too cheap (given that I can
use all my superpowers and literally level a base in about 30
seconds). I've already beat Halo for PC. So much for that. Both those
games are going off when I go back to Waterloo, that's for damn sure.
Dammit, I say damn to many damn times. Oops, I said damn again.
Damn.
I'm going to have an Articles section maybe, when I actually
decide to start it and have enough to find it worth it. Right now I'll
just put it into The Mind.
Well, Christmas is coming up, and me and Mr. Credit Card have a
lot to pull off this season around, now that Mr. Fiscal Responsibility
is on my shoulders. That 500lb financial juggernaut called University
Tuition is still sitting on my other shoulder. That's gonna be gone
soon by the end of the term (waiting for interest on my account to
kick in first before I pay that $4 997 bill.
Now go back to your regularly scheduled pseudo-life. I don't have time
for the likes of you.
**click-clack**
I lied. Sue me.
(...Steady...)
10.27.03 - Yup, apparently I DO have fans, contrary to popular belief.
Yeah, for some reason, I'm getting an usual amount of hits,
all of which CAN'T be from Derek alone (he can't love this site THAT
much).
Anyway, I decided to be mean and lend Derek my whole anime
collection (except for Noir and Initial D, both of which couldn't fit
into my already overloaded CD spindle), which should just about suck
all his time away from anything else (leaving exactly enough time
for, say, a bullet to leave the barrel). On top of that, I've
given him so much he can't possibly burn it all in a month! haHA! That
is, unless he intends to melt his CD burner, which I've yet to see,
but then there's always a first time. I don't really mind, since I've
got...
Vision of Escaflowne DVD TV Collection from Image and Sound! For
$35 CDN, much less than that bastard other place, charging $53 for the
same thing. That's crazy talk! You're crazy! Anyway, the collection
was supposedly ripped from the licensed English versions and therefore
has English and Jap language tracks, and Chinese and English
subtitles. Plus, for a fan ban DVD set, the SUBTITLES MAKE
SENSE! HOW SWEET IS THAT? That'll teach greedy American corporations
to release DVDs at $30 USD each. Hehe.
Borrowed my friend's Hunter X Hunter DVD collection. Killua still
kicks ass with his sadistic attitude, but Hisoka appears to be MIA.
Damn. Kurapica regains his wussy side. Damn again.
Oh, and I got Raven Shield working without crashing, so it's back
to state-funded mass murder with high-caliber weapons. Last week's
focus was on silenced 9mm SMGs and light armor, creeping around giving
the unfortunate tangos lead injections directly into the brain stem.
This week's focus is what I like to call "walking tank", which
involves a light machine gun (7.62mm, preferrably) and heavy armor,
clomping down the halls and mowing down everything in sight.
And then there's Max Payne 2. There's nothing like putting two
surgically-precise rounds into two heads in a single slo-mo dive with
an mp5, with nice blood-splatter to go with it. And an incredible
graphics and physics engine. I'm still in awe of the physics alone,
more so than actually killing these tangos. Wait. Hey, I can combine
the two! (*bang* a tango drops off a 4-storey catwalk, hitting every
single beam on the way down). Coooooooollll.....
And I'm apparently a microeconomics tutor. Details to follow on
that.
And mp5a4 beat the g3ka4 out of the airsoft running. Now's the
hard part: being able to blow all that hard-earned cash.
Now go away; I've got terrorists to shoot, and anime to watch.
Begone.
09.18.03 - I have fans?!
As hard as it is to believe, I apparently have fans. The
solution is simple, follow these steps, and if you think about it --
no, wait. Forget it, I'll just spare you the headache you are
undoubtedly having and I'll just explain it to you.
- I apparently had visitors to my site back in
August. Funny, how I had final exams at the time, I didn't update
until mid-August, and didn't notify my one and only frequent-visitor
and fan my cousin Derek, until I told him late August.
- Site Statistics report that many of my visits
were linked to from another site, apparently Derek's, whose domain
is vaguely that of a camp.
- Site Statistics also report that the main
operating system is NT 5.0. Since NT 5.0 is a Windows NT networking
platform and not readily available to the common computer user, I
conclude that most of these visits came from within a class of some
sort.
- By Statements Two and Three, I can conclude
that visitors came from Derek's summer school course in webpage
design and since these links from from Derek's page, I can also
conclude that these are his friends, or stalkers, at which point I
will smear my face with grease, dress in full black, buy a Marine
Corps black-bladed Kaybar combat knife, and go hunting.
Cool, huh? Therefore, this update is
dedicated to these loyal fans, or Derek, or both, or only Derek, if
Derek and fans are one and the same.
**slams head on wall, clearing head for a moment**
Anyway, I am deciding on a HK G3Ka4 or HK Mp5a4. But
it'll be a while, since I need cash, but tuition keeps a gaping hole
in my pockets. Maybe later, when I'm rich, I could get a red-dot sight
for the Mp5 or a claw-mount and scope for the G3. Of course, replica
weapons are probably a turn-off for girls. "Hey girls! I'm armed to
the teeth!" Yeah, that'll work as a pick-up line.
Gimmie a sec, my head seems to be ringing.
**slams head on wall, ending the ringing for a moment**
Still hunting for girls within acceptable age limits. Which
is difficult, since I've yet to metaphorically zero the crosshairs.
Odd, this stupid room insists on spinning endlessly around
me. Quite curious, that.
**thud.**
08.13.03 - Yes, I finally updated!
I know, I know, it's been a DAMN long time since I last
updated, somewhere in the neighbourhood of...oh...two months. And
during those two months, you more that likely would have found
something more fun than simply sitting at your computer reading and
re-reading this site over and over. But here you are, ready to read
the next installment.
My excuse? Pretty much the same as the last: university. Yes. I
know, it's summer and I should have been slacking off like everyone
else. But alas, no so with me...and it sucks greatly to be
stuck in my dorm room studying for final exams while the rest of the
world takes it easy. Suffice to say, days turned to weeks, weeks
turned to months, and months turned to terms, and before I knew it,
three months flew by, I don't feel any smarter (although I hope I am)
and this site probably has metaphorical dust on it.
If you're a loyal visitor to this site, you've probably noticed a
slight layout difference in each of the sections. The reason is
simple: it got boring. I couldn't effectively show myself as the
smartass, sarcastic, cynical bastard that I am. The site now features
300% more ranting and raving than the leading smartass, sarcastic,
cynical bastard out there! >=)
Right now, I'm taking it easy before my next work term in
September. Oh, that and laughing hysterically at anyone who I think is
too stupid to share the planet with me.
And also thinking about an AEG, either a HK G3KA4, HK MP5 A4, or
HK G36C. Costs are pretty big, and so is delivery, so I gotta think
long and hard about this one.
So that's it.
And I'll leave you with this:
"The key to combat is to be the first one shooting and the last one
shooting, but not the only one shooting."
Think about it.
Wait, don't. You'll hurt yourself

01.08.05 16:40
EST
Finally had the time to update this site, after an absence of a
REAL long time (since frosh week, maybe longer).
Anyway, starting this term at Scotiabank, network security dept.
This term oughta be fun.
Updates: Anime, Gundam, Mind
08.19.04 00:33
EST
Normal updates, nothing spectacular. Hey, I'm bored this term.
Updates:
Anime, The Mind, Old News
06.11.04 23:49
EST
Minor cosmetic changes to the site, just to give it somewhat of
a visual kick. I did it mainly just to make the page stand out a bit
more.
05.27.04 00:00 EST
Finally, an update! Got some time now, but since I get home
fairly late, I have to make the best of my time (yes, this
qualifies). I dropped the Rant, since I'm losing my cynical
viciousness. Also, read the disclaimer in Profile. It's worth
reading.
Updates: Anime, Gundam, Mind
03.17.04 22:49 EST
Limited, if very rare, update, since I'm in the middle of my
study term. Expect slow updates of the rest of my site as time
progresses. Of course, this study term might kill me, so no
guarantees. Oh yes, if I die, PS2 goes to Kelvin. Nice try, Derek.
Btw, some interesting stuff in The Mind recently. Might be worth a
look-see. I intend to (hopefully) throw up another Rant.
11.26.03 23:18 EST
Major revamp of the black-styled site to a refreshing stylish
white. Background to follow since I need to modify the cool GP03D
wallpaper, but right now it's conflicting with the page (ie you
can't read my stuff). I've added "Old News" section since
my main page is getting pretty damn big, so that's to minimize that.
The usual update to everything else...or pretty much everything
else.
10.27.03 08:57 EST
Updates will likely be scarce, since I'm likely wasting my time
playing SkyGunner or Raven Shield, now that I've got my PC
configured correctly. Minor update to The Mind, decent update to
Anime, somewhat bigger update to Archive, and a miniscule update to
Gundam. And, as before, this website does not exist if you ask me.
Main reason for small updates is simple: I haven't got any
significant change in my sarcastic bastard-ness. This elegantly
divides the masses between those who hate me, and those who love me;
black and white. Clever, no?
09.18.03 22:48 EST
Behold, for I update! Well, this update will include minor
changes to anime and a slightly updated anime and gundam, while
hopefully a massive change to The Mind. Officially, I am no good at
HTML and webpage design ( since teachers are going to be coming to
me asking to update their sites). Unofficially,
however, there's this. If asked, this page DOES NOT EXIST. And at
that point, The Seto Compendium, Dakkar, RiCeKiNg! or whatever name
I will be using for the month will disavow any knowledge of this
site and of my skills. That is all.
08.13.03 23:05 EST
Well lookee here! An update! Alright...The Mind is seriously
revamped to take advantage of my numerous rants and raves, rather
than my rather silly and stupid one-liners. Trust me, it's better
this way, and it'll be more fun. All sections are more or less
updated. (more or LESS, keep that in mind). My excuse for the late
update? University. School. Dai Hok. No,
seriously I don't understand why you would be so interested in this
site. No, really. I'm flattered, but also astonished at your
continuing perceived interest in this site...
06.05.03 12:59 EST
Yes, yes I know it's been over a month since I last updated. And
with good reason: university. Too much work, assignments, and
midterms. Hell, you should be lucky that I updated at all! Whew!
Well, midterms are comin' up, so it'll be longer still.
04.25.03 09:17 EST
A lot more updating done, and a good chunk of it. Gundam
and The Mind updated. I have also created an Advanced Wars FAQ of my
own (love the damn game) and my own compilation of Murphy's Laws of
Combat.
04.14.03 11:46 EST
All the pages are fully up (no longer just
"technically") Some are updated, others are not. And I'm
in the process of updating.
03.05.03 11:31 EST
Finally all the pages are up
(some are still empty) but they are, technically up. Not many
pictures and shit, but the simple and rather elegant design and
atmosphere should more than make up for it. It will still be a while
until Archives are filled since I will need to compile
everything for it. Home, Profile, and Gundam pages are fully up,
though. Anime, Archives, The Mind are up but more or less empty
until further notice.
02.23.03 19:56
EST v2.0
Ah, the glory of HTML and Frontpage. This may finally earn the title
of version2.0. Everything's been kicked up a notch, and if you've
noticed, looks a lot better, doesn't it? Rejoice, and be glad, and
may it see v3.0!!
02.22.03
Lo, and behold, Dakkar returns! Alrite, so this site heavily needed
a revamp, and after three years, mainly offtime, here it is! Except
for the frames, there's nothing else rite now.
