Dic vs Sailormoon case
For a minute I thought about putting down this page, since anyone at least a little
familiar with Sailormoon knows all this crap...and frankly, most people already found
a way to obtain all Sailormoon episodes (download or VHS) whetever DiC decides to dub
Sailormoon or not. But still, those who wanna hear a piece of my mind about it, read further.
THE DU(m)B US Sailormoon won it's name around as 'dub sux', which is soft way to call 'Sailormoon dubbed to English'. About now I've seen 8 episodes (downloaded from web) and few music clips. Tell you what! If you've been watching US Sailor Moon by now and haven't seen the original one, then think twice whetever you want to see one, coz getting back to the US dub's gonna be mighty unpleasant. On the other hand, of you haven't seen any US episode, then for gods sake, remove all dangerous objects within your reach and don't eat/drink while watching. I got this bad experience when I was wathing my very first episode and drank a hot tea at the same time. Special look-out for Ami's first show-up, the voice's gonna scare the hell outta you!! I don't know what kind of idiot picked those dubbers, coz they can't put oneself in, let's say, Usagi's situation. Their expression of sorrow is downright forced (just download this file and you'll know what I'm talking about). The voice/peronality ratio is way out of normal. Whereas Ami's personality should represents a well educated straight person, her voice reminds me of 8 years old maltreated beaten brat. The same goes for Rei. And I even heard that Tux's dubber resigned because he didn't get payed. It's like 'let's go pick up some kids of the street and dub this japanese crap called Sailormoon.' Can't tell whetever it's DiC's fault, but someone out there sure messed his work. Still, as far as I know, the "judge" deciding the fate of overseas animation series is DiC. Not that I would wanna spread some racialistic bullshit, though that's the way I feel about it. Through all this, many people states, that if it weren't for DiC, America would never even hear about Sailormoon. Bullshit! It's like if someone has stated that: "If it weren't for Mircosoft and the Windows OS, computers'd still run on MS-DOSes" And furthermore, who says DiC is gonna be the only who's deciding whetever to show Sailormoon or not? There is always a place for each and every Sailormoon episode on Internet, you just gotta know where and how to look. Disney and other giants are accustomed on cartoons that immediately after first night made big bucks (e.g. animated Hercules, Quest for Camelot, Ariel...etc.). Sailormoon was absolutely, not first, but most extensive Anime and so, more expensive (unlike some...Batman crap, showin' 5 episodes and then all over again). DiC bought rights to not even 1/3 of all episodes and so, they didn't let people to see sessions like BSSM S (Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon Super) or the Star session, which had absolutely best story line. As a reaction to this, few folks started to run a campaign called SOS (save our sailors) in order to convince someone up there to reconsider dubbing more episodes. Believe it or not, but SOS menaged to gather quite a nation and so they came up with this idea called online petition and raid on grocery store buying strawberry frosted Pop-Tarts. All of which the Program Exchange brought the show back on-line, though SOS could not clearly state if the prefered 'Pop-Tarts procott' had any effect on their decision. So, the US has Sailormoon back an' goin', but one way another, they're still missing more then hundred episodes and there doesn't seems to be changing anything about that. And as a matter of fact, many people don't even want more dubs considering that such action would require changes about the Haruka-Michiru relationship. And that couple definitely does NOT need ANY changes. |
