Together Again
Chapter 2

"Not to mention she was a petenshi who loved to embarrass others." Chuckled a fourth voice, Sarah looked in the direction of the cloaked figure walking in their direction. When he arrived he pulled down his hood, Sarah telepathically gasped her shock . . .

"Iie! It can not be! Merlin?"

"It’s me Sarah, it’s me. I am sorry I couldn’t restore your voice."

"Sarah, who’s Merlin?"

"Child, gomen nasai. But this is very private, I will teleport you to the Crystal Palace. Be a good girl, ne?"

"Hai Sarah. Bye! Nice meeting you all!" She said as the green flames engulfed her.

"I’ve been watching you all these years Sarah, wondering when I’d get the chance to show you my secret. But the time of Queen Serenity is short, I will let her ask her question first, then we’ll talk." He nodded to the Queen.

"Thank you Merlin. As he has said, my time is short. So I ask you one question, why? Why did you save the little boy in the car that went over the cliff?"

Sarah suddenly felt uncomfortable, she had forgotten that.

"I . . . I felt a strong power within him, I knew he was special somehow but I did not know why."

"You know he holds one of your feathers?"

If Sarah was capable of speech, she would have said something to the extent of ‘Urk!’.

"I must go now, perhaps we will see each other again some day."

"Yes, perhaps."

Queen Serenity vanished, Merlin turned to Sarah.

"Sarah, when I first saw you, I . . . I realized that I [loved] you. My father . . . my father wanted me to meet you one day. The day we met was the day the raven led you to me, Sarah, I want to be with you."

"An Alicorn and a human?"

"No Sarah, two Alicorns." He said as he became an Alicorn, Sarah hugged him tightly, not wanting to let go lest he [vanished].

"I’m not going anywhere Sarah. And together, we can conquer your fears."

"Conquering my fear is one of my dearest wishes, but I would give anything to be able to speak, to sing!" Sarah’s ear began to twitch like it usually did when an appealing idea was forming in her head.

"What have you got planned Sarah?"

"Here is my idea, but a lot of work is required."

Merlin’s smile broadened as he heard Sarah’s idea.

Chibi-Usa appeared in front of Jupiter and Mars, both were glad to see she was okay.

"Of course I’m okay! Sarah was with me!"

"Where did she go with you?"

"She went to the moon! I saw Queen Serenity among it’s ruins! But guess what I learned? I learned that once Sarah could sing! But she lost her voice somehow."

"She did Chibi-Usa? How do you know?"

"Queen Serenity said that Sarah’s voice have shamed angels and that it was a shame she lost it. But when this weird guy named Merlin appeared Sarah went into shock and sent me here, he called her a petenshi."

They looked at her in utter disbelief, the serious and solemn Sarah, a petenshi?

Sarah reappeared in the Hidden Valley with Merlin.

"Your plan has you written all over it! But you’re right when you said it would take a lot of physical and magical power. We will be pushed past the limit to pull this off you do realize."

"I realize, but by then she should know the truth and be old enough to accept facts if the worst does happen."

"Of course we could get lucky."

Sarah smiled at Merlin.

"We will get lucky sooner than you think."

Then they set Sarah’s plan in motion, physical force and magic were being used to pull this off, both wanted it ready for when that time came.

Pluto approached Serenity, who seemed deep in thought, that was unusual in itself.

"Usagi."

"Setsuna, why are you here?"

"I’ve come to answer your unasked questions, to tell you why Sarah has no voice."

Pluto opened a time portal and Usagi followed her.

The two travellers appeared in a small village in the medieval era, it wasn’t hard to find Sarah in her human form. They followed silently until they approached the old magician. Usagi watched in shock as the ugly scene unfolded in front of her, she gasped when the town was beating her, a spear was shoved into her throat. And that was all, Sarah could speak no more. It really hurt Usagi that Sarah’s last sound had been an agonized cry of pain.

"Now I understand why she was so frightened when she saw everyone."

Setsuna nodded, but a secretive smile almost showed itself. She knew what Sarah and Merlin were planning, and she was glad.

"So do you really know him?"

"Hai, we met a day after the Valley was destroyed, we became good friends. I am glad he has found room in his troubled heart for love."

"Yeah, love at first sight, I know the feeling."

Sarah blushed.

"We have kept in touch, we talk every year or so." She said as she was hauling several large slabs and broken pillars of the Moon Kingdom palace.

"Let’s take a break, I really want to meet Neo-Queen Serenity."

"But this is one of the busiest times of the day!"

"I know, we both agreed that it’s high time you got over your fear."

Sarah heaved a silent sigh before she and Merlin vanished in green flames.

Serenity and Endymion were sitting in their thrones looking bored. Serenity had told Endymion what Pluto had shown her. He had nodded, but said she might never come back after the fright she had when everyone first tried to greet her.

"No, she’ll come, I’m sure of it."

As if on cue, the green flames came and went, revealing a very nervous Sarah with another Alicorn trying to calm her. When Sarah saw that only Serenity and Endymion were in the room she calmed down mostly, but she was still nervous.

"Welcome Sarah, who is your friend?"

Sarah gulped loudly.

"Serenity-sama, Endymion-sama, this is my friend from long ago, his name is Merlin."

"Merlin?!" They both gasp, Sarah looks at them with confusion. Unbelievably, Serenity regains her composure first.

"Merlin, I thank you for saving Sarah’s life all those years ago."

Sarah’s eyes got wide and she stepped back nervously.

"Don’t worry, I didn’t read your minds, a friend showed me what happened."

"We are having our monthly gala tonight, would you like to join us?"

"We would be honoured to." Merlin said before Sarah could say anything. Sarah shot him a look and Merlin almost shrank under her withering glare. In a huff she vanished in her green flames, leaving Merlin behind in the throne room.

"Ahh, Sarah and I agreed to try and get her over her fear. I figured this would be a good opportunity. If I could stop her from fleeing it would be a great improvement."

"But she will flee when she sees all the people that will be there."

"Not necessarily, I have in my possession a stone designed to take away powers temporarily, she will be forced to stay. I realize it’s a little cruel but it gives her only one choice, stay and attempt to interact. But there is a side effect, she won’t be able to communicate at all, her telepathy is partly magic."

Serenity thought for a moment.

"I have an idea, but I’m not sure it will work. What if I used the ginzuishou to heal her voice?"

"I don’t know, Sarah said she’s attempted to use the celestial crystal for the same purpose to no avail. It’s odd, the celestial crystal has the power to restore life from death for billions of people, but not the power to heal her throat."

Serenity and Endymion nodded in agreement, that was odd.

Merlin meekly entered the Valley, he didn’t want to deal with one of Sarah’s telepathic onslaughts, but she was angrier then an upset nest of hornets.

"Sarah?"

"Do not worry, my anger left a long time ago."

"I’m sorry . . ."

"Iie, I am the one to apologize for leaving you there."

"I forgive you, you were really angry that I didn’t let you say anything, and you had every right to be. But I’ve got some news."

"Good or bad?"

"A bit of both actually, Serenity wants to try using the ginzuishou at the high peak of the gala tonight to restore your voice."

"I do not think that would work."

"Let her try at least, you and I both know that different crystals have different capabilities. Besides, she’s used the ginzuishou to heal others before."

"Hai, I will let her try."

The gala begins, Sarah and Merlin are about to walk into the ballroom . . .
