Senior Service Information Engineer |
Caterpillar |
My current duties are the authoring of technical publications such as Service Magazine articles, Special Instructions and Technical Information Bulletins. I am also responsible for the update of various machine manuals. All these publications are linked to Caterpillar’s range of Articulated Trucks. I am solely responsible for the publications and have to be completely self motivated and responsible for the organisation of the workload.
Previously, I reported to Caterpillar’s Stockton site where my main duties were the writing and updating of service and repair literature for Caterpillar's range of articulated trucks and telehandlers. This work improved my knowledge of vehicle design, hydraulics, power trains, and the writing of technical material. The work I was entrusted to do was both physically and mentally challenging, as I had to validate all the procedures I authored, from engine removals to seat installations. I also had to decide on my own schedule of work and ensure that correct safety measures were in place at all times. |

In England looking for full-time work as either a junior or graduate engineer. While doing so I completed an AutoCAD 2000 course at Northumbria University, and Pro/ENGINEER 2000i at Newcastle College. I also undertook some office temp work, both to bring in an income and broaden my office experience. From the beginning of Febuary up to April, I was employed on a temporary basis by the Labour Party collecting voter statistics from their National Telephone Bank, North Sheilds, completing just over two hundred hours of call work. |

Teacher of English as a Foreign Language. |
American Culture University, Taiwan, ROC. |
I returned to Taiwan to work for my previous employer, American Culture University (See Feb '95 to Apr '96.) My work was much the same as before though the number of classroom hours had increased and I had had a greater sense of achievement and success in my work because of my prior teaching experience and college training. I had more chances to work on my teaching presentation skills, preparation and collect resources. My last two months were spent improving my Chinese language skills at a cram school in Taipei, Taiwan. |

Apprentice draughtsman. |
NEI Parson Ltd, Heaton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. |
My first experience of full-time work was with NEI when I was taken on as an apprentice draughtsman at their Heaton plant near Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I served a three year apprenticeship working in the lubricating and hydraulic oil section of the company main drawing office. My duties included the preparing of pipe work general layouts and isometric pipe work details. I also prepared detail drawings of the pipe work supports and sundry equipment. At the end of my apprenticeship, NEI annouced the need to reduce its workforce. I accepted the company's voluntary redundancy offer and left at the end of that year. |
Over the past two decades I have enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and interests.
- Organisational - Between 1983 and 1987, I was enlisted in the Territorial Army serving with 216 Sqd (V) REME workshops. Between 1984 and 1992, I regularly practised Karate and achieved my black belt in1989. While at university I was involved in the University Karate club and held posts as secretary and chairman.
- Travel - I enjoy travel and through the past years have taken long holidays aboard to such places as Europe, North America, and China. All normally done as a low budget/backpack traveller. In 1992, I decides to learn Mandarin Chinese as a second language. Over the past few years I have gradually taught myself, in my spare time, to read and speak the language. At the moment, I would assess my ability to be about higher intermediate level.
- IT - Over the past two years, I have become increasing interested in the building and managing my own Internet Web page. As well as a place to help me focus and practice my writing skills, something I feel I need for teaching and future work in an engineering environment, it is also a place for me to hone my Internet ability. From starting my Web Site to the present date, I have taught myself to write HTML code (Including Forms and Frames,) and how to make banners and images on Paint Shop Pro 6. I am also familiar with JavaScript and Java.
|
- I hold duel British and Canadian nationality. I have passports and national security number for both countries. Also, eligible for permanent residence and work permits in both the USA and the Republic of China.
- I enjoy keeping fit through cycling, hiking, running and weight training.
- I have a clean car and motorcycle license.
