 The core of the plot of Fushigi Yuugi, and the two main characters you see first in the show (and manga): Yui Hongo (Seiryuu no Miko) and Miaka Yuki (Suzaku no Miko). Yui is the one with light hair (although it's actually blond, it looks white in this manga pic) and Miaka is the brunette.
I'm not much of one for the full profile with blood type and everything, so here what I'll mainly have is a character summary. Miaka Miaka is your average prospective high school student studying for entrance exams. Not necessarily a genius, she's still capable. She has an IMMENSE love of food, which never ceases to amaze even her best friend, Yui. She is emotionally a very strong person, and deeply cares for others. A great example of this is that every time something really traumatic happens in her life, she still acts cheerful so as not to drag anyone else down with her. It's one of my favorite things abotu Miaka, actually. She will fight for her friends until the very end, even Yui-chan, who does some pretty cruel stuff to Miaka. Even through all that, Miaka is always able to forgive. Often far too trusting, it gets her into trouble more than once (where she is often saved by Tamahome). Yui Yui Hongo is intelligent and practical. It is difficult to see why she and Miaka are such good friends, since their personalities are so different. Yui can be kind of stand-offish at times, and really mean when she gets into a bad mood. She also tends to be a lot more confident about herself (she runs around the entirety of Kutou palace in, apparently, nothing more than a white button-up shirt for an entire episode...) And she is also mroe arrogant at times. For some odd reason though, she is still my favorite character. Call me wierd.
