Gourry Gabriev

Gourry is the main male character in Slayers. He first appears
 in the first TV episode.(He is in everything but the movies
 with Lina and Naga by themselves.) He "saves" Lina from a gang
 of bandits. The conversation is as follows-
               Lina: (to herself) He is dazzled by my        beauty,etc., etc.,
                Gourry: Oh great, it’s a kid.
               Lina: !
                Gourry: I thought I was rescuing a babe, a
 lucious damsel in distress, instead, it’s a flat-chested                                                        girl!!
               You get the idea.
Anyway, for a long time, he treats her like a kid. A kid that
 can fry his butt, but, a kid. He is famous for being a little
 dense. (Some say he’s got less brains than a box o’ rocks, but
 I disagree. ) He is the owner of the Sword of Light, a very
 powerful sword. Gourry himself is quite powerful. I believe he
 is the most powerful swords-person  in the series. NO, I’m not
 saying that just because. I got proof somewhere, I just forget
 where it was….(Another swordsman, Zangalus, follows him around
 in one part of the series, repeatedly challenging him to a
 fight..((Zangalus never does win)))  Someone made this point,
 and if you watch, it’s true… In episode 2 or 3, we get a
 glimpse of how strong Gourry is. In a fight, his sword gets
 stuck in a tree trunk. Most people would have to yank, and pull
 it out, but Gourry just cuts through the rest of the tree AND
 the guy standing on the other side of it!!!!
      Not much is known about his family, except that it has
 possessed the Sword of Light for a long time. There is some
 debate on a kid named Raudy Gavriev (who looks  INCREDIBLY like
 a young version of Gourry) being related, but it’s not
 official.   
      Gourry may be dense sometimes, but he is the most loyal
 and chivalrous companion a girl could ever want. And he does
 understand sometimes, and usually when it really counts. He and
 Lina are in love, even if they don’t realize it for a long time
 into the series.
