Japanimation
Brief Input
If we all looked at Japanese animation as a movie for it's story rather than look at it as just of a cartoon, then we'd all be watching Japanese cartoons in theaters like a ordinary movie. There is a big difference between Japanese and American
cartoons. American made cartoons do show little bit of violence like in Marvels "X-Men", "Spider Man", or even the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" sometimes comes with a mature audience storyline. Japanese cartoons on the other hand (usually referred to as "Manga") will show you everything there is to offer just like a rated R movie.
My all time favorite cartoon was the space epic Robotech (originally named "Super Dimension Fortress Macross", "Genesis Climber Mospeada", and "Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross") trilogy created and premiered in the 80s because of it's animation and great loving, losing, fighting, and dying in a concieved world storyline.
Robotech
Robotech (Oringinally called "Super Dimension Fortress Macross") which later expanded to two more series, is about a story of that takes place in the year 1999 with the planet Earth at war. A alien ship known as the SDF (Super-Dimensional Fortress) crash lands on Earth. While scientist's don't know it till later on, the ship itself is made up of organic substance known as "protoculture" which is the source of life for the creators of the ship, the Robotech Masters. As the scientist's examines their newfound technology, the Robotech Masters launch an attack on Earth to reclaim what was theirs. To protect against the assault, Earth defenses along with newfound technology (plane that can change to three modes = Bioroid robot mode, Eagle mode, and attack ship mode) uses the SDF's abilities against the Zentraedi.
With the shows tale of deadly aliens, revenge, death, jealousy, war, and love triangles, there was no doubt that the show gave what fans call it a fantasy tale that won't be forgotten. visit some of these links below for Robotech stuff!
Dragon Ball Z
Another Japanese cartoon that has cultivated fans is "Dragon Ball Z". There are two versions to the Dragon Ball series. The first of series "Dragon Ball" tells the tale of a young boy named Goku who spends most of his childhood life living on his own in the woods, practicing and training martial arts. Not only does Goku do his daily routines, he also guards his most prized gift given to him by his grandfather - a strange golden ball. What Goku doesn't know about the dragonball is that if all dragonballs are gathered (There are seven dragonballs), they can be used to call "Sheng Long"; a Dragon God that grants the summoner's greatest wish! Dragon Ball Z tells the tale of a older and growned up Goku which over the course of time as the series goes, meets new friends and foes (Vejita is one tough dude!), gets married, dies only to come back to life and dies several more times to the point where he eventually stays dead so his son "Gohan" takes over the cartoons leading hero. After 500 televised episodes, dozens of new videos and movie releases, and comic books, Dragon Ball still remains to be the king of all Japanese cartoons.
Did you know? The influence that started the Dragon Ball series was based from the Chinese folk tale "The Monkey King" (in Cantonese "Hsi Yu Chi" meaning in English "Journey to the West") Double-click -Monkey king to see a nice tribute to Chinese Mythology compliments of Thomas Nguyen.
The best Manga movie I've ever seen would no doubt be "Ninja Scroll". Other favorite movies include from the creators of Ninja Scroll-"Wicked City", and creators of the Macross-"Macross Plus". Click on following link to see a site on
