street lamp for Philips Italiana

Design: Andries van Onck, 1975

Philips lamp closed side view

The realistic problem of street lighting is its cost of lux per square meter in time which includes, beside the material cost of the lamps, posts and wiring, the cost of maintenance and energy consumption. The optimization of these different factors led to the present fixture, with high performance SON lamps, mounted on 13 m. high posts with either vertical, inclined or horizontal ends. The form is aerodynamic to diminish the impact of wind force.

These lamps are mounted inside a waterproof case with variable inclination equipped with an internal reflector and a multi focussed glass cover. Any maintenance can be effectuated utilizing exclusively one instrument. Electronic and electric equipment is mounted in the rear sector with air inlets.
