It was an interesting and challenging task that awaited us at Zanusssi's when they contacted us in 1978 to reorganize the industrial design for their household appliences sector. The Zanussi holding is grown out of several indipendent applience producing factories, each with its own history, models and market appraoch. This resulted in a rather dishomogeneous and uncoordinated collection of products in its different sectors: refregerators, washing machines, dishwashers, ovens, and others. Zanussi furthermore had to adept its models to the different requirements of their wordlwide market. We had to make therefore a primary effort to optimise and to coordinate this assortment of products. We came eventually up with four main lines each with internal coordination between the functional sectors.

At the same time consumers in many countries were changing their behaviour in the kitchen aerea, not longer esclusively preparing meals and washing but also eating and dining, and started asking for modulor appliences that could be integrated with the kitchen cabinets.

All this meant a lot of design work both for graphic displays and ndustrial design for machines with their functional, technological, ergonomic and esthetic details. The making of drawings, renderings, models, the visiting of specialized fairs, the analysis of diferent life styles, discussion with production engeneers and cost analists, the writing of reports and presentation to the management.

We show, just for the sake of presentation, some flashes of this job.
