Designers since
several years have difficulty to install and manage their
relations with the italian industry. One reason is the growing role of low cost manufacturing in Cina and elsewhere. Moreover designers have caused diffidence in their clients with projects without response in the market. For us this means that we must search for our luck abroad, for example in Japan. This is the case with FOCA, a small japanese industry that proposes accessories for the home. umbrella stand "mettilo" from 2005 by FOCA in ABS and allumium, can be knocked down for packaging. |
A further example is the shoehorn "airone" in cast and polished alluminium, a product typical for the japanese home where everybody before entering gets his shoes off. In reality "airona" is more like a small sculpture with its form prevailing on its function. This does not mean that both aspects, as in many post-modern design, are disjoined in a casual manner but more like the outcome of a classic aesthetic research resulting in this product that enhances the expression of its ritual use. produced by FOCA since 2006 |

Even as we have decided to sign all products from our studio together: design Andries e Hiroko van Onck
this
often does not corrispond to truth: the real author is sometimes only
one of us. The products for FOCA, for example, are designed by Hiroko
Takeda, whereas the role of Andries van Onck is limited to the
engeneering consultancy.
