I was first introduced to the game at my best friend Kathy's house in the summer of 1995. I wasn't really interested since I was not yet aware of the trademark SQUARESOFT before. But something in the cartridge cover design seemed interesting to me. My friend told me that it was currently the best game yet to be released. I wasn't listening very much while my friend hooked up the SNES and talked at the same time. The only RPG game I have played so far at that time was ZELDA in the NES and SNES so I knew what kind of game this is.
Then I heard a "ticking of a clock" while a pendulum swung over in the
T.V. screen. It was the introduction of the game. Kathy didn't play at
once and wanted to show me the demo first. I just stared at the T.V. as
if I was staring at something for the very first time. Different
scenes from the game were shown seperated by a black transition originating
from the left of the screen going towards to the right accompanied by a
cool 'swoosh' sound. The demo or introduction was, to put it in the shortest
term: just COOL!. My body was tingling all over! The music, the graphics,
the oh so many possiblites that this adventure game could bring! In my
mind, I was thinking, "How am I gonna explain to mom why I'm always in
Kathy's place? Maybe Kathy could play at my home instead. Sure she won't
mind , her brother has a car and she can go there every day". When the
demo was over, I noticed I was already holding the control pad that Kathy
laid down on the floor a while ago. I must have wanted to play the game
so badly, I unconscioulsy thought the controller and the SNES was mine.
Kathy didn't mind me trying it out since it was hers after all and
she can play it whenever she likes it to.
I pushed the start button and a blue menu screen just popped up on the
T.V. I suddenly noticed I was having a slight headache for I knew that
Kathy forgot to tell me something VERY important. Every letter in that
blue screen was in a foreign language that I am too famliar of but
couldn't read. It was in JAPANESE! How could anybody play an RPG game that
couldn't read what the characters were saying? Kathy then realized that
I didn't know the game was in Japanese. She just laughed and said I could
borrow it if I wanted to. My world just dimmed by then, ... She explained
that there are still no available American version in our country just
yet.
