Introduction: It's really nice to know that anime is becoming very popular here in the Philippines. Well, it has been before but with the help of some influential T.V. channels, their popularity have soared sky high. Serious dubbing of certain anime series (like "Peter Pan", "Little Women" and other classics in anime) in Tagalog started in 1992 or 1993 with "Peter Pan" by 'Saban' in Channel 2. Since then, other anime series started popping up, also dubbed in tagalog. Probably, 1 person out of 3 with television sets are now religiously watching an anime series daily, choosing from a wide selection found in various T.V. channels. Some can compare it with a telenovela and even described it much better. Filipinos love watching telenovelas so it's not a wonder that most of them watch an anime series daily or weekly. Dragon Ball Z and YuYu Hakusho was even shown in the movie theaters here. Those two were the only anime movies released here for now though. Samurai X Rurouni Kenshin aka Samurai X in the US is now airing in the Philippines in Filipino. It has been aired before on Cable 23 in the original english version but now it is also airing in ABS CBN 2 in Tagalog. I haven't seen the whole series in English yet because I find the voices a little weird in English (then again some say that it's even weirder in Japanese because of the female voice of Kenshin). But now that I've seen it in Filipino, it somehow has a poetic sound in the voices and Kenshin's voice in tagalog suits him better (since it's a 'guy' who dubbed it). It's like hearing it in the original Japanese version because of the expressiveness in the voice except you understand it because it's being spoken in your own language. I must add that Filipino seiyuus (voice actors/actresses) are really good and can be compared with the seiyuus in Japan. Expect me to run home every 4:30 pm on weekdays just to watch this one!
