Crono

A typical
teenager living in the seemingly peaceful kingdom of Guardia in 1000 A.D.,
Crono was chosen by unseen entities (guardian spirits) to save the world
from ultimate devastation. He accidentally went into the future and saw
the end of the world. Since then, he promised himself to stop whatever
the cause of the destruction.
Though Doomsday will
not happen until 1999, the ancient seeds of destruction were planted long
ago by the evil Lavos. He must travel back and forth through time to change
the course of history helping people he meets along the way, and stop Lavos
from succeeding in destroying the world. As he journeys on he meets many
helpful people in both the past and the future in which became his companions.
He's a skilled swordsman and was able to learn Lightning Magic spells during
the journey.
Though been through tests and tough times, his loyalty to accomplish his
destiny never faded even at the time of his death. He died trying to save
his companions from the clutches of the evil Lavos, but was revived again
with the help of his faithful companions who shared his destiny to become
saviors of their world. |

Marle
(1000 A.D.)

Marle is actually Princess Nadia of Guardia Castle in the year 1000 A.D.
She grows impatient with royal life and eventually leaves her home. She
met Crono at the fair and since then joined him in his journeys. She learns
Ice Magic along the way.
She is the owner of the magical pendant handed down to her by ancestors
which was triggered and accidentally opened a time gate.
She was sent to the past and was mistaken to be Queen
Leene. Her existence was endangered for a moment due to the change
of course in history. Crono followed her and saved her in a brink of a
moment. When they came back in their own time, Crono was being accused
of kidnapping Marle.
Here, Marle's disagreement with her father grew worse and made her ran
away again with Crono. When she came back, her father was already being
accused by the evil chancellor (who was actually a descendant of Yakra)
of stealing a family heirloom. Marle still thinking that her father didn't
want her anymore because he didn't have time with her (just like he didn't
have time to see her mother in her death bed) helped her father with the
aid of Crono and his friends to find the missing heirloom. The chancellor
was exposed and Marle found out that everything she thought about her father
neglecting her mother in her death bed was all untrue. She was reunited
again with her father and was able to continue her adventures again with
Crono but this time on her own free will.

Lucca
(1000 A.D.)

Lucca is Crono's best friend. She loves science and uses her knowledge
to build fantastic machines and very clever weapons. She's the one who
invented the Telepod which triggered Marle's pendant to open a time gate.
She then created a "gate key" to
open the time gates on their free will whenever they encounter one.
During the adventure she eventually became a master of a robot (Robo) they
found in the future and also found a time portal which leads to a sad past.
She went back to the time her mother had an accident and was pinned in
one of the machines her father had invented. Lucca, as a little girl, was
there and saw her mother pinned down and was helpless to save her. Since
that time, Lucca studied machines to prevent another accident from occurring.
Her mother couldn't walk anymore and Lucca blames herself for it.
Now, she has a chance to change history. Lucca saved her mother by pressing
the right codes to stop the machine and went home in her time to find her
robot waiting patiently for her and gave her a gift: the Greendream.
She realized that machines aren't that bad at all now that she found a
friend like Robo. Lucca helped Crono with his journey to stop Lavos so
she could preserve the knowledge and science of the world she so loved.
She also learns Fire Magic during the adventure. |

Frog
(600 A.D.)

Once
a Guardia Knight, Frog's real name was Glenn. He used to be the student
and close friend of the legendary Knight, Cyrus.
Glenn was caring, noble and kind to people even to those who oppress him.
He was a great swordsman and probably even better than Cyrus but he didn't
like fighting thus never used his talents to the full. He journeyed with
Cyrus to battle Magus into the forests and there he saw the death of his
friend. Cyrus' last words to Glenn was to always protect the Queen. Here
Glenn kept his promise by saving the queen in the hands of Yakra.
Magus didn't kill Glenn and instead turned him into a creature of a
spineless nature. Since then, Glenn trained himself to be a better
swordsman and used his talents to the full to protect the weak and oppressed.
He didn't want to confront Magus again because of painful memories and
because of the loss of the Masamune,
a magical sword which was used by Cyrus and was Magus' weakness but
was split into two during the battle. Crono and his friends looked for
the other half of the Masamune sword and and fixed it using the help of
Melchior and by finding a dreamstone in 65,000,000 B.C.
When the Masamune was handed back to Frog whole and intact he was able
to get the courage to confront Magus again. He agreed in helping Crono
in search for the dark wizard.
Frog encountered Magus once more and with the help of Crono and his
friends, they fought the evil wizard. Frog wasn't able to kill Magus at
that time but was sucked into a time portal the wizard created.
Eventually, Frog forgave Magus and gave up the idea of avenging his friend's
death for he thought that killing a person wouldn't bring back the life
of another.
During his journey with Crono, Frog was told to visit a haunted building
in his time. Frog discovers that Cyrus was the one haunting the place and
was able to talk to his friend one last time. Frog comforted Cyrus by telling
him that their queen was in safe hands with him which set his soul to peace.
Suddenly, the Masamune which was watching Frog all this time came to life
and took it's real forms: Masa and
Mune. They said that they have been waiting for a true Knight like
him to become the holder of the sword. The Masamune became even more powerful
than before now that Frog was it's new owner.
Frog now felt ready to help Crono and confront his true enemy, Lavos, which
threatens to destroy them all. He learned Water Magic along the way. |

Robo
(2300 A.D.)

Robo was found by Crono and his group in a collapsed dome in 2300 A.D.
He was fixed by Lucca and became her faithful friend and servant since.
He wasn't able to recall his original master's instructions and decided
to help Crono to return to their home.
During their journey, Robo found his other robot companions whom
identified Crono's group as intruders and tried killing them. He
was told that he was a defect and that he should be as obedient as them.
Robo realizing this was confused for a moment and almost joined them if
it weren't for Lucca's concern for him. Robo was 'trashed' by the other
robots and fought Crono and his group afterwards.
Crono succeeded in the fight and Lucca went desperately to fix Robo again.
When he became conscious, Robo joined Crono and Lucca for he was no longer
accepted in his home.
They eventually returned in Robo's time afterwards and there Robo found
his old friend Atropos. Robo was glad to see her but realized that she
wasn't what she used to be. She too became cold and lifeless just like
the other robots he encountered before. Robo was forced to choose between
his old and new friends. He decided to go with Crono and fought Atropos
alone. Robo won the battle but unfortunately destroyed his best friend.
Atropos eventually came back to her old self before she died. Robo heard
her familiar voice again for the last time and received a gift from
her as a token of their friendship. Robo, angered by the happenings confronted
his evil master and destroyed it. He also promised to help Crono to stop
the awakening of Lavos which led to the destruction and alternation of
his once beautiful home. |

Ayla
(65,000,000 B.C.)

Ayla is primitive but strong coming from a time of dinosaurs in 65,000,000
B.C.. She can break huge stones with a punch or kick. With her strength
she doesn't need to use magic. She was the chief of her tribe and was trying
to save them from the reptites led by the intelligent Azala.
Crono and his group met Ayla when they were looking for a Dreamstone
in her time and was attacked by the reptites. They were saved by Ayla and
afterwards helped them to acquire a Dreamstone.
Eventually, the next day, Lucca's gate
key was stolen by one of the tribes people (Kino)
and then by the reptites. They haven't any choice but to fight them to
get it back. Ayla helped Crono fight Azala and got the gate key back. Crono
and his group went back to their own time only to return again after being
sucked into a time portal created by Magus.
When Ayla found Crono's group safe and sound, she was then alarmed by the
tribes that one of the villages were being burned by the reptites. Ayla
being warned by her elders before that fighting the reptites would do no
good to them, blamed her for the destruction of the village. Ayla couldn't
take anymore the reptites oppression and decided to fight them herself.
Crono followed Ayla and offered to help her.
Ayla, with Crono's group, went to Azala's castle and faced him. Ayla then
defeated Azala for the second and the last time. Here, they found out that
a red star was slowly falling from the sky directly hitting Azala's castle.
Azala knew about this and knew that it will bring the Ice Age to their
world. Ayla took pity on Azala and wanted to save him. Azala knew that
the reptites wouldn't last long anyway through the cold ice age and wanted
to perish from the impact instead.
Flying away from the meteor's impact using pterodactyls, Ayla told Crono
about Lavos, the red star. Crono's group now know where Lavos got his name
and how he came to this world.
Knowing that her tribe is safe now from the reptites, Ayla decided to join
Crono's group afterwards to save the future of her people. |

Magus
(600 A.D./12000 B.C.)

Known as the Evil Prince of Darkness from 600
A.D., Magus controlled monsters to make war to the humans. He has killed
many Guardia Knights and one of them was the legendary Knight Cyrus.
He was also the one who transformed Frog into what he was today. He was
thought by Crono and his group to be the creator of Lavos.
Magus was actually an enlightened child (Janus)
from the Magical Kingdom of Zeal (12000 B.C.) who was separated with his
sister
Schala
and mother Queen
Zeal by Lavos and was transported to the future. He grew up in 600
A.D. with the guide of
Ozzie and honed
his powers from the darkness to get his revenge someday. He then was able
to use his dark magic to bring Lavos from 12000 B.C. to 600 A.D. and destroy
him. Unfortunately, he didn't succeed due to the interruption of Crono
and his group. When he was defeated, the portal he created sucked them
all and brought him to 12000 B.C.
Magus, returning to his original home, disguised himself as a prophet to
stop her mother (who was possessed by Lavos) with her dark plans
of taking Lavos' powers. On the moment of awakening, Magus reveals his
true self but was defeated by the queen. Realizing that he cannot
stop Lavos by himself, he joins his past enemies to help revive Crono
whom he thinks was stupid to kill himself for his friends.
With his great power, Magus doesn't need the help of others to destroy
enemies in just one blow. He became a powerful, helpful and cold ally to
Crono but besides destroying Lavos, finding her lost sister Schala was
the only two things he want to achieve during his journey with them. |
