At present at the Kingdom of Guardia, monsters and humans co-exist with each other in peace and harmony. Today, they celebrate their Kingdom...

THE MILLENNIAL FAIR

"Come one sleepy head! Get up!"
Crono felt someone opened up the window in his room. He can hear the birds singing outside saying that the world is in harmony this morning, but he doesn't want to open his eyes yet. The pretty sun's rays was also creeping into his face but he still didn't respond to it's calling.
"Come on Crono, you're gonna miss the fair..."
At this statement Crono suddenly woke up and found his mom smiling at him.
"You must have been too excited to sleep last night huh? Well, get up already and I'll fix you some breakfast." Crono's mom smilingly told him. She went downstairs as Crono got up to do his usual exercise routine...
Crono was a well built teenage boy with spiky red hair. He was a happy-go-lucky person and looking for adventures was his favorite past time. His father is gone now and since then he carried a sword hoping to become a great swordsman like his father one day. While he was exercising, he remembered he *was* too excited about the Millennial Fair last night and was in a topsy-turvy in his bed.
"I wonder what Leene Square will look like today?" he thought. For a few days now, he and his friend Lucca have visited Leene Square to watch all the ongoing preparations for the upcoming festival. "I guess today's the day I find out!!!" Crono said jumping up and down and soon dashed downstairs.
"Good morning dear," Crono's mom greeted him when he arrived in their kitchen. Crono greeted his mom also and was smiling when he smelled the delicious breakfast his mom has made for him. Crono felt very lucky to have such a wonderful mother. He made a promise to himself that he will take care of her especially now that his father is gone...but then again he *is* still a young teenager and having fun cannot just pass by in his fresh mind.
Crono's mom watched him while Crono ate his breakfast. She thought that Crono is growing really fast and soon he will become a great swordsman like his father was. She saw that Crono was a fun loving person but she knew that behind that happy-go-lucky face of his lies a brave and caring soul. She was also feeling lucky to have a son like him.
"Well, gotta go now mom," Crono said while he stood beside his mother waiting for her something to say.
"Oh dear, I almost forgot! Your friend Lucca came by today. She mentioned something about an invention of hers. She also said to meet her at the fair so she can show it to you..." Crono's mom said trying to recall what else Crono's friend said.
"Oh really? Great! Thanks mom!" Crono started to run and when he got to their front door, he suddenly remembered he still hasn't asked his mom what he's supposed to ask in the first place. He went back in again and stood beside his mother just like he did earlier. Crono's mom laughed at him and gave him 200 G, the allowance money for the fair. Crono scratched his red spiky hair while smiling at his mom and gave her the thanks of the world. He ran outside their house feeling that nothing could stop him now to go to the most awaited event their town.
"Wow! Everything looks great!" Crono was in too much excitement to just be still in one place. Leene Square turned into a fun-loving environment just like he imagined it would be. Many colorful tents were placed everywhere the Square and a lot of people are now walking all over the place. Everybody seems to be taking the opportunity of a fine weather and are having a great time. Crono looked left and right and could not think of anything else but fun fun fun! There are all sorts of vendors including monsters that are selling different kind of things here and there. Fair onlookers who knew much about the history of Guardia and the reason for this fair were talking to other onlookers who has similar interests. Crono didn't want to listen to them right now. All he want to do is to check out all the games that were surrounding and teasingly inviting him.
He first tried the game "GATO" that was located at the far left end of the Square. The Giant Robot attracted his attention and it was explained to him that his name was "Gato the Singing Robot". He was told if he was to fight him and win, he will receive 15 silver pieces. Crono was very much excited when he heard this. He's not just going to have a great time, he'll be able to practice his sword skills also. He then moved forward inside the fighting ring and Crono suddenly heard a music
After the Robot said the rules to Crono about the stakes of beating him and winning 15 silver pieces, Crono drew his sword and both of them got ready for battle.
"Okay Gato, let's see what you got." Crono hit the Robot first with a fast downward stoke of his sword then hastily drew back. Crono smiled that the Robot didn't faze at all. He thought that Gato might be worth fighting after all. He even got more excited now that his opponent is a good and that it will help him a lot in his training. Crono suddenly felt someone in front of him and Gato punched him in the face. Ouch! Crono was surprised with this and shook his head.
"My, that was embarrassing! But I guess I deserved it, thinking that I could easily beat you in one blow", Crono said as he drew back and gave Gato another one of his vertical sword strokes but this time much harder than before. Gato was fazed but only for a while and returned Crono with one of his massive punches. Crono knew this was coming and ducked before Gato's fists landed on his face again. Crono moved around to get a correct position for a technique he has been training for quite sometime.
"Well, Gato let me know what you think of this...CYCLONE ATTACK!!!", Crono said and whirled around the fighting ring with a fast pace sticking out his sword to strike the opponent several times with it.
Gato was pushed far back taking the force of Crono's attack with him. Somehow, the robot hasn't fallen yet and Crono thought that it's not programmed at all to fall. Crono then took this opportunity while Gato is recovering from the blow to deliver his final strike. He suddenly rushed towards Gato and gave him a slant stroke downwards and another slant stroke upwards with one swift move with his sword. Gato did not fall but reverted to it's original "standing" state at the center of the range just like when Crono first saw him.
The music ended and Crono knew that he won the match! He was now jumping up and down when he heard the robot said to take his silver pieces. Crono went to Gato and in his stomach came out Crono's 15 silver pieces.
"You're one tough robot, Gato. I'm glad we could fight and give my Cyclone technique a test," Crono said to Gato as he was getting the silver pieces, "I'm planning to fight you again some time soon so don't get tired right away, ok?" Onlookers have been watching Crono for quite sometime and said to themselves that this kid got potential to be a great swordsman.

Crono didn't waste time to check out the other games also. He used his 15 silver pieces to play on the other games. He tried to  bet on a FOOT RACING contest and won more silver pieces. Crono also tried the GUZZLING CONTEST game where he will be counted in how many cans of soda he could drink in an allotted time. He has to drink 8 cans to win. Crono joined this game for he was well known by his friends that he has a bottomless pit for a stomach and couldn't be filled easily. Crono won this game effortlessly that astonished one of his older competitors. He then moved on to check the other games, when he stumbled into a mysterious tent.

"Hello, this is Mr. Bekkler's SHOW TENT. Enter the tent at your own risk," a man standing outside the tent said to him. Crono felt a tingling sensation for the mysteriousness of this game. He went in.
Inside the tent was dark. He suddenly heard a laugh and was greeted by a "mime" without a body and only his head and hands could be seen.
"Welcome! Which three games would you like to play?," the mime said.
"I guess I would try the second one." Crono replied.
Three identical soldiers in armors suddenly appeared from a door at the end of the room. They went in front of Crono in a horizontal line fashion. "This game is about how well you stick your sight in one person. You will now choose a soldier and all of them will interchange places several times. When they stopped, you will now point out which person you chose earlier, " the mime explained to Crono. Crono nodded and pointed out the soldier in the middle. The three soldiers suddenly walked around themselves interchanging their positions. Crono kept his sight on the soldier he picked that when the soldiers stopped and stood in line again in a horizontal fashion, he knew that he will win. Crono pointed out the soldier at the right. The mime suddenly laughed and told him that he was wrong. Crono couldn't believe it! How could he have lost? The mime said that the soldier he chose was in the middle.
Crono now went outside the tent still wondering how he could have lost. The three soldiers really looked alike to one another. He must've slipped his eyes on another one and lost track of the original he was setting his sight on. Crono was still wondering what has happened to why he has lost. He was looking at the ground thinking and walking lamely. When he looked up, he suddenly saw a girl's face an inch of a distance from his face. He felt a quick bump in his forehead before he realized that he was falling to the ground.
"Ouch! That hurt!" the girl said while lying down on her knees.
Crono was lying on the ground still recovering to what has happened. "Ow, that was even worse than Gato's punch!" he said suddenly realizing that he has bumped into a girl and walked to her then asked, "Are you ok?"
"I guess we both should watch where we're going next time huh?" the girl said smiling at Crono. Crono helped her stand up. The girl fixed herself up and the realized that something was missing. "Oh no!  I've lost my pendant!" she shouted. She suddenly searched the ground. She was having a hard time with all the people walking by it. Crono was more than willing to help the girl since it was his fault that they bumped into each other. Both of them are now bending down looking for the pendant. Crono saw a glittering object several feet from where the girl fell and ran towards it to pick it up. It's a necklace all right and Crono rushed to the girl and asked, "Is this your pendant?". The girl looked at it and jumped with joy.

"Oh thank you! You don't know how much this necklace means to me! Thank You very much!", the girl said to Crono.
Crono now realized that this girl was very pretty with blond pony tailed hair. She looks a bit spunky but Crono felt some "reserveness" also emanating from her. She was now even prettier that she was smiling at him. Crono shook his head to snap out from her contagious smile and told her that he was more than glad to help her.
Crono was about to leave when the girl suddenly said, "Ummm...I'm a bit new to this place and I'm all alone right now....Would you mind if I go with you so I could have a companion to show me around?". The girl was a bit scared that the boy might decline. Crono thought for a moment and said that he'll be glad to show her around. The girl was over-joyed now and was very grateful to the boy.
"Thank you so much! You're a real gentleman!" the girl said to Crono. She suddenly remembered that she hasn't introduced herself yet. "By the way, my name is...ummm....Marle.... What yours?".  Crono said his name. "Crono eh? Nice name! Glad to meet you Crono! Lead the way, please!", Marle said over joyed with Crono's kindness.

Both of them walked around Leene Square and talked to each other. Crono showed Marle all the games he has played already and had a great time. Crono then just found a game he hasn't tried yet. It was a HAMMER CHALLENGE. The owner said to Crono that he has to hit the base and ring the bell to win. Crono was very much interested and wanted to show Marle his strength. The owner handed Crono the large hammer and told him to strike the base anytime he wants to. Crono became serious all of a sudden and walked backward to get the appropriate distance he needs to run. When he thought that he went back far enough, he then dashed towards the base as fast as he could to hit it with the momentum of his body joining  the hammer. Crono's serious expression suddenly changed when he felt he stepped on a wet spot on the floor and suddenly slipped. He then realized that his arms were lamely bringing down the hammer to base. The meter hardly went up at all and Crono heard Marle laughing out of her wits.
"You should have... seen your expression... change, Crono!" Marle said running out of breath each time while she laughed. Crono just shook his head and smiled. He might not have won and might even made a fool of himself but he did made Marle laugh and that was one thing he was happy to achieve.
Crono and Marle had a great time during the festival. They've played games and checked out items that were on sale there. Crono felt that Marle was having a real great time. It's as if she hasn't experience a festival like this before but he thought it absurd. After a short while, they met a crying little girl in midst of the fair. Marle asked the girl why was she crying and the girl replied that she couldn't find her pet cat. Crono remembered seeing a cute orange cat a while ago that looks like it was lost or something.
"Hold on! I have to check something out..," Crono rushed to the spot where he saw the cat and found that it was still there. Crono took it to his arms and went to where Marle and the little girl waited. The girl was happy to see her pet and stopped crying at once. Marle couldn't believe how much a gentleman Crono was and just smiled at him.

They also met a a vendor with the name if Melchior who sells swords, weapons and other items. Crono was much interested in these things so he stopped for a while. The man saw Marle's pendant and said, "Oh! Will you be willing to make your friend over there to sell her pretty pendant?" Crono looked at Marle who was standing behind him. Crono knew that Marle's pendant was very much valuable to her and was already proven by her desperate search for it a while ago.
"No thanks sir, that pendant is hers and it will be ride for me to ask her to sell it to you." Crono said to Melchior.
"Are you done already?" Marle went beside Crono and letting Melchior see the pendant up close.
"Oh My! I think you are right lad. Your friend should keep this pendant. It's a special one and I suggest you take good care of it. It's very old." Melchior said realizing the pendant's true value.
"How do you know this is an old one? It doesn't look like it, does it?" Marle said to the vendor.
"I just have an eye for things like those. Well, here are the things you bought now lad. Enjoy the fair!" Melchior said and gave Crono the extra things he needed for fighting before they went on their way.

They went on walking around when they came to a man who said that there seems to be a show at the far end of the Square. The man said that it's a demonstration of a machine of some sort. Crono then remembered what his mom said about his friend Lucca showing him her invention. Crono told this to Marle and they decided to check it out. Marle stopped first to buy some candies while Crono waited for her. Marle seems to be testing Crono's patience for she was taking an awful lot of time to just buy some candies. Crono still waited and waited. Marle then realized that Crono's been waiting for her for a long time. She mentally took note that she should not get used in people waiting for her. Marle apologized to Crono and they both went on their way.

When Crono and Marle came to the place where the man told them Lucca would be, they found Lucca and her father Taban trying to demonstrate their so-called "teleportation device".
"That thing would never work!" "That girl's eyeglasses are so big! I looks like it could see through the moon!", these were heard by Marle and Crono when they went
"Step right up! Step right up! Try out our new teleportation device that my daughter has invented!"
"Crono!" Lucca shouted as she saw her friend come into the crowd, "where have you been? No one wants to try my Telepod!"
        "Telepod?" Crono asked.
"It's the invention I told you about that I'm planning to show you. It's a teleportation device that would transport a person from the left Telepod to the right Telepod without even moving that person. No body believes that this thing would actually work. Hmmm....why don't you try it, Crono?" Lucca said.
"What!?! Why me?" Crono said with a fear look in his eyes.
"C'mon Crono. Don't you trust me? Please, it will mean a world to me."
"Ah, well..that is.....I mean to say is.......ok" Crono said so faintly that Lucca barely heard him.
"WOW! Thanks a lot Crono! Pls. don't look like you're going into a death sentence. It's just an invention of mine. Don't you trust me?"
        "I'm not sure yet..."
Lucca happily showed Crono to step to the left Telepod. She told her father that she already got a volunteer.
"You got a victi...I mean volunteer? Well, good let's try this thing out already then," Taban said giving a look of pity to Crono. "Ladies and gentlemen, we now have a volunteer to demonstrate this invention that my beautiful daughter created. Please be patient and watch what the outcome would be..." Taban announced to the crowd.
Lucca and his father started to power up the Telepod. It was already giving a weird noise that made Crono's hair stand up. The noise was getting louder and louder. Crono whirled on the Telepod and jumped up when he heard a loud electrical surge before he disappeared into thin air. He reappeared simultaneously on the other Telepod that was on the far right from the Telepod Crono stepped up to.
"Oh Wow! That was great!" the audience said.
"I can't believe it actually worked! I mean to say is...Ladies and Gentlemen, that was the great invention my Beautiful Lucca created!" Taban said astonished that the device worked after all.
Crono stepped down from the right Telepod a bit hazy with what just had happened and went to Marle.
"What a kick! I want to try it too!!!" Marle said to Crono. Crono just looked at Marle and gave her a questioning expression asking if she really wanted to.
"Crono, I didn't know you got a very pretty friend. Why didn't you tell me?" Lucca was happy to meet the girl who wants to try her device. Crono introduced the two and told Lucca that he just met her a while ago.
"Well then Marle, would you like to try it now?" Lucca asked.
        "Of course!" Marle smilingly responded.

Lucca and her father set up the device for another demonstration. Marle stepped up on the left Telepod and waited. Lucca's father then announced to the audience that a pretty lady would now demonstrate their device. Like what happened the first time a loud noise emanated from the device only to get louder by the minute. Marle thought it was exciting at first but after feeling that something's amiss, she suddenly got worried. When she looked down, she saw that her pendant was glowing by itself. Crono and Lucca saw it too. When they thought the glowing pendant was pretty mysterious they were even more mystified when they saw a vortex came out of nowhere and sucked Marle into it.
        "???????!" said the crowd.
Crono and Lucca looked at each other...
"What in the world happened? Crono why did she disappear? Where did that vortex came from?" Lucca gave Crono a worried look.
"Why are you asking me? It's your device remember? You explain it to me!" Crono responded also with a worried look.
"Ok Ladies and Gentlemen, show's over. Nothing to see here now...Go on shoo shoo!" Taban said to the audiences and went to Lucca. "What has happened there Lucca?"
Lucca thought for a moment and said, "It seems Marle's pendant reacted and glowed when we turned on the Telepod. It might have something to do with the vortex that appeared just now...and sucked her in."  Crono was hearing this when he saw that Marle's pendant was still in the left Telepod and showed it to Lucca. They both rushed towards it and Crono picked it up.

"Well, if this pendant has something to do with it then I guess it can also do the same thing to me"
"What are you saying Crono? Are you going after her?" Lucca asked.
"Lucca, she's my friend. It's my responsibility whatever happens to her. I would do the same thing to you too!...ummm, I guess." Crono said to her. Lucca didn't respond and just looked at him for a while to see if he was really serious.
"But we don't know what's behind that vortex...hmmm...ok then...I might be able to solve this puzzle in my Telepod and follow you Crono." Lucca said thinking that this mystery might be worth checking out.
"You got some bravery there kid, good luck!" Taban said to Crono.
Crono stepped up to the left Telepod and put on the necklace. Lucca and her father powered up the device. The pendant was glowing again just like when Marle was wearing it. Crono felt the loud sounds surrounding him and saw the vortex reappear beside him getting ready to suck him in. Crono held tight on the necklace. He heard Lucca shouted that she promise to follow him after she figured the mystery behind her Telepod. Crono took a last glanced at his friend then disappeared...
