BACK TO THE FUTURE

"Thank you lads and lass. I would never have guessed that the real queen would still be missing," the King said to Crono, Frog and Lucca while they were being honored in the throne room. The queen was already sitting by his side and was much grateful especially to Frog.

"Thank you Frog, I knew you will come to rescue me..." the Queen said.

"Will she knock it off already...I mean we saved her too you know...", Crono whispered to Lucca much irritated now.

"It's ok Crono, I think the Queen and Frog knew each other very well. Hmmm...this is really mysterious and I think I should find it out. Anyway, I still haven't thank him yet for saving my life." Lucca said and saw Crono glaring at her so she smiled at him.

The king offered the three to a banquet but Crono, Lucca and Frog refused. They said they all should be going home by now. The queen suddenly remembered something...

"If I am here and you said your friend who looked like me was here a while ago then where is she now?" she said.

"Oh my Gosh! Marle!!!" Lucca exclaimed. Crono and Lucca bowed to the King and Queen and asked permission if they could go upstairs to the Queen's private quarters.

At the instant they were permitted, they suddenly ran to the stairs leading to the higher floors where the said room was located. Lucca looked at Frog one more time and saw that he was already heading towards the Palace door.

"I wish he would stay a little longer so I could thank him.." she thought to herself.

Crono and Lucca went upstairs and into the said room just in time to see Marle reappear on thin air. A blue flash of light was seen and the moment they blinked their eyes, Marle was suddenly there.

"Where am I? Am I back?" Marle said still unsure to the ongoing events that surrounded her was real.

"You sure are!"

"Oh Crono! You don't know where I've been. It's so dark, silent and empty...ooohh I don't know what I'm talking about really but I know that's where I've been.... Is that what it's like to die?.." Marle said then suddenly turned her back at them to hide her sad desperate eyes. Then she heard Crono shout.

"Well, I'm not letting you dissappear out of my sight again like that!!! Don't ever think I'll let ya again, Marl...," Crono suddenly realized who he was talking to, "...I mean your royal highness."

Marle was already smiling when she heard what Crono said and turned to look at them to let them see her happiness. When she realized what Crono had said last she was suddenly startled and looked at both of them.

"I guess you know my secret already huh?" she asked them.

"Yes, Princess Nadia, I was unable to identify you before you were sucked into that vortex but I was sure you looked familiar. I mean who could forget a royal heir to the throne." Lucca said to her. Crono suddenly coughed for he realized he didn't even knew there was a princess at all.

"Ha ha ha ha! No need for formality in front of me. Please just call me Marle. I would like to hang out with you once in a while if it's ok?" Crono and Lucca nodded at her with a smile. Marle, being spunky and all, forgot already what happened to her earlier and was already jumping for joy.

After a while, they then headed downstairs to the throne room. Crono and Lucca told Marle what had happened to them earlier while she was gone and explained to her what time or era they were really in. When they came to the throne room, Crono and Lucca introduced her to the Royal couple.

"Oh My!!!!" exclaimed the whole Palace.

"My dear, you look exactly just like my Leene! Ha ha ha! No wonder I mistook you easily for my queen. I am deeply sorry for that lass." the King said much surprised to the resemblance of his queen to this girl.

"I guess you're my ancestors huh? Not bad. Well, thank you anyway for taking me in and serving me as your queen." Marle winked at the Royal couple. The King and Queen just looked at each other not understanding what she meant by her first words but were glad to meet a spunky lass which is rarely seen in their kingdom.

Crono and Lucca just smiled at them and gestured that they should go. They said their good byes formally and went to the Palace door. When they came outside, they saw that Frog was still there talking to the other guards. He was being praised by them and seem to know him very well.

"Frog!!!" Lucca exclaimed and ran towards him not realizing she was happy to see him.

"Well lass, I never thought that thou would miss me so soon." Frog said to her.

"What?... Of course not!... What do you mean! I just wanted to say something to you that I forgot earlier..." Lucca said while blushing and saw that Frog was waiting patiently for her to say something. "Well...I just forgot to say...thank you...for saving my life." Lucca realized what a silly way to say her thanks to somebody she didn't like earlier and suddenly blushed even redder than before. She just knew Frog's going to laugh at her now.

"Well, lass, I think a pretty person like thee is worth saving by a thousand soldiers if a gratitude like that will be the reward." Frog said to Lucca much amused at her blushing. He suddenly realized somebody standing behind her and went nearer. "Is this the friend thou were talking about? Her resemblance to the Queen is uncanny," Marle just stared at Frog thinking that his resemblance to a toad is uncanny also, "Well, I must be heading homeward now...Till we meet again!", and Frog just leaped away from the castle grounds.

Lucca unprepared to what Frog said earlier was still out of her right mind and was looking at the place where Frog disappeared. Crono amused to what had happened to his friend said, "The lass is now staring at him as he 'leaped' away out of sight...". Realizing what she is doing, Lucca then glared at Crono giving him the impression that he should better run away before she catches him.

Marle was just laughing at all of this while Crono and Lucca ran across the front castle grounds. She gestured at them to stop already and that they should be going home also.

They traveled back to the place where the portal spit them out.

"Now what?" Marle said to them. "How are we suppose to get home?"

"Well, I am happy to explain that I have here a "Gate Key" that will bring us back," Lucca said and explained to them about the "Time Gate" that sucked them in. She said that a Time Gate was created when Marle's pendant reacted with her Telepod. It is an opening to a 'tunnel' which will lead them to a specific time or era in which another 'time gate' is located on the other end of it. She then said she created a "Key" that automatically opens a Time Gate whenever they encounter one without the accompaniment of the Telepod or Marle's pendant.

"What do you mean whenever we encounter one? Are you saying there are more?" Marle asked.

"In my theory, yes, but I'm still not sure how it is being created. As of now, I have here the Key that will bring us home or take us to another time when we encounter another Time Gate besides this one and on the other side" Lucca answered.

"Wow! You're unbelievable. I would trade my position as a princess to have your intelligence in just a blink of an eye," Marle said with much awe at her new friend.

"Yeah, she's something all right. Do you know her past time is kissing Frogs and seeing if they turn into princes." Crono said breaking Lucca's self appreciation after what Marle said to her. Another fight was about to begin when Marle stopped them and said she would like to go home now.

Lucca then pulled out her "Gate Key" from her bag and held it facing the location where they were spit out by the vortex. Suddenly, a "Time Gate" was opened. She gestured to her friends that they should go in now. They decided to jump in all at the same time.

"Home!!" was all that was heard from them as they shouted it before they dissappeared into thin air.
