Europe 2

These photos were taken in my second trip in Europe in summer 1997. I went there with my friends Gillian and Alison. Photos with them are in Friends.

euro2_1 The first place we arrived in my 2nd European trip was Vienna.

euro2_2This was taken at a cemetry in Salzburg.

Two Czech dishes
In the front, it is a fish with steamed cakes.
At the back, it is meat with potatos. They were rather salty.

It was after the heavy flood when we arrived there. It was overcast during the 3 days. I wanted to attend some free concerts recommended by a HK girls I met there. But there weren't any.

After 1 week in Austria and Czech Republic, we went to Berlin, Germany.

The first concentration camp in Europe. It is in Dachau, Munich.

The original barracks and buildings were pulled down. There are two remained at the back of the photo. They are now exhibition hall and lecture halls. Many young Germans go there to learn the past of their country.

Leaving Munich, we went to Stuttgart, Heidelburg, and Fuessen to visit beautiful castles.

I took a night train from Germany to Itay and arrived in Venice in the morning. We spent more than a week in Venice, Florence and Rome. As you may have visited those popular places, I have not posted those pictures here.

My friend Gillian lost her passport bag in Vatican and we decided to extend the stay in Italy and after getting a new passport, we went south -- Naples and Sicily.

Naples

Naples is a city where many nice places like Pompei, Capri are nearby. They are less popular as people think that the law and order there is not good. But actually they are worth going especially you get tired of those "must-see" in the north of Italy.

CapriCapri lagrotteLa Grotte

La Grotte is a "must-see" of Capri. After about 40 minutes rocking on a rather rough sea journey, the boatman managed to lie on the boat and pulled the boat into this great sea cave.
The blue light is formed naturally by reflection. The boatmen are good singers. In the cave, they row the boat and sing traditional Neapolitan songs like "Torna a Surriento".

Pompei

If you are interested in ancient ruins, it surely takes much time to walk through the ruins of Pompei and look at things in detail.

We took a night train from Naples to Sicily. We had an interesting experience that a train travelled by ship. We stayed at a pension at Massina, the gateway of Sicily and went to Catania where there is a sleeping volcano.
