From: Luke Shu-Hao Hu To: Nicholas Flor Subject: New Space Battleship Yamato, the movie Date: Sunday, January 14, 2001 1:37 AM Dear Flor, I found some websites about the New Space Battleship Yamato. Since they are written in Chinese, I can understand them 100%. The first website is: http://www.easttouch.com.hk/2000-09-19/ttrd/ttrde0/ET2000002000091816352070.htm This article is dated Sep 2000. It says that the TV version of the New Yamato would be aired by the end of year 2000, and the movie version will be shown in 2002. The first two pictures are from this project. The third picture shows the new OVA by Matsumoto, titled "Meatel Legend". It would be released on Dec 20, 2000. Since this website tells very little about the story of New Yamato, I am concentrating on the following website. The second website is here: http://life.21cn.com/et/comic/advices/024.html This article is dated January 2001. It gives detailed information about the movie version of New Space Battleship Yamato that is going to release in 2002. But it gives nothing about New Yamato on TV, nor the existence of it. The following is my translation about New Yamato, the movie. The story took place in the year 3199, and for some reason Battleship Yamato is still lying on the bottom of the Arctic Ocean (I know this is inconsistent with the previous Yamato story and the real history). In order to save the Earth, the wreckage of Yamato is transformed into "Great Yamato" (that is what it is called). The Great Yamato weights 178,000 tons (against the 75,000 tons Yamato that we know of); equipped with dual wave-motion engine, much more powerful wave-motion gun and main cannons. But the New Yamato looks almost identical with the Yamato we know of (at least from the outside). It is believed that the interior may be largely new design. The crew of 3199 are the descendants from the crew of 2199, so they look exactly like their great-great-...grandfather/mother. Even their names stay the same. But the crew will be globalized. I am not sure whether this means that we will see some Caucasian, Black etc. members aboard Yamato; or it just means that the crew will not behave too much Japanese. There is one very important new member aboard Yamato, her name is Yu-hei-yao. She is a mysterious woman (may not be human), and she told the Yamato crew that she was on the sight when the first Yamato was sunk in 1945. She is 2000 years old according the story (and she looks very young. of course). The enemy of Yamato are both come from the Earth and outer space. By the year 3199, a large portion of population on Planet Earth are not human, but methanoids. Methanoids are some kind of cybers with metal cells. It is unknown how will they going to harm the Earth and humans at this moment. Yamato's second enemy is Dark Queen, a supreme ruler of another world. It seems that this another world is not another planet, but a world from another dimension. And because this "another world" is going to "collide" with the Earth. Both humans and people of Dark Queen have the fight to save their own world. Mr. Matsumoto said there will be no stereotype bad guy/good guy in the movie, everyone is fighting to save his own kind. The tragedy is that in order for one to survive, the others have to be extinguished. The story is about the human struggle to survive, and is about the continuation of life. The entire human history is about our struggle to survive, to give lives to our offspring, so is the story of Yamato, he said. All pictures in this website are from the "New Space Battleship Yamato" CD soundtrack. ** The term "movie" here means animation movie, of course.
