The original Super Mario Bros...what's left to be said? This game revolutionized video games, and is one of the most famous games of all time. Back in the 80's, I was in love with this game. The game boy version is pretty much identical, except for some small graphic enhancements. But the game boy color version isn't just a straight port of the NES classic. It's got a good amount of extras thrown in, incluldin' a 2 player mode, where you can race a friend through a stage, a calendar, a fortune tellin' game (weird, I know), the ability to select your levels in the original game(you've gotta earn it though), another game where you go through all the levels you've beaten searchin' for coins, and some other stuff. It's still as fun as ever to play, but the graphics coulda been improved a little more(if they can bring Resident Evil to gameboy color in 3d, then they coulda fixed up the graphics in Mario Bros. DX a little more). Despite all of the cool extras though, they can't match up to all the games in Super Mario All Stars. I know, I know, the SNES is more powerful than the GBC, all I'm sayin' is if ya already have Super Mario All Stars you really don't need ta pick this up, unless ya just have ta see all the extra stuff. And if ya have an SNES, but don't have Mario All Stars,and wanna get the original Mario, I'd have ta recommend All Stars over Mario DX. In fact, I probably wouldn't have picked up Mario DX if I didn't win it, along with 4 other GBC games, along with a GBC from Nintendo Power(ain't I a lucky bastard?). Anyway, comparisons aside, Mario DX is a great game, and if ya don't have an SNES you should definitely consider pickin' this up, I give it a 4.5 outta 5. Now if they could only make a GBC version of the original Legend of Zelda... |
