This game came out with only slightly more advertising
than its predecessor, Wild Arms. Fortunately, advertising isn't the
only indication of what to expect. This game is good. The battle system
is very unique; the story is original; and, aside from the seemingly mute
main character Vahn, there is some great dialogue between the characters.
The translators did a great job with the text. Everything is understandable
and only funny when it is supposed to be. Also, the difficulty is very
balanced and rises at a decent rate. Moving from one area to the next doesn't
create problems like
dying instantly because you didn't wait around and level up your characters or didn't buy the proper equipment. Even so, equipment is a big part of this game. Getting better equipment is a must to complete the next area as opposed to just surviving it. The biggest drawback is that everything is very expensive. Getting new armor can take a while just because you need to find the money to buy it with. Even so, this game is fun to play and I recommend it to any gamer out there. 4.5 |
Most RPG fans will like Legaia. It has a real cool
and innovative battle system, in which you have to find all the hidden
arts(powerful combos). Well you don't HAVE to, but you'll want to. The
stories fairly good, not great, but good. The characters could use a little
more depth, but only hardcore RPG fanatics(like me) will really notice.
The graphics are
always 3D, but are very polygonal(like many RPG's, the graphics get alot better during the battles though). All in all, Legaia's a good RPG, but if you don't have much cash you might wanna wait until Lunar: Silver Star Story, or Star Ocean: The Second Story comes out. They'll most likely be better. 4/5 |
I love RPG's. Final Fantasy for the Nintendo was the first one I ever got to get my hands on. Now that RPG's are more mainstream than they were before, there have been many more to choose from. Legend of Legaia is one of the better role-play games I've gotten. Released by the same team that produced Wild Arms (another of my favorite games), this story focuses on a world torn apart by what is simply known as The Mist. In earlier times, humans were able to co-exist with a being known as Seru, a machine type life-form that, when paired with a human, could make a person stronger. But when the Mist covered the world, everyone who wore one of the Seru were possessed and lost all their will. Enter Vahn, a native of Rim Elm. He has been entrusted to revive the Genesis Trees, the one thing that can hold back the Mist, by a Ra-Seru, a stronger version of the Seru. Now for the mechanics of this game. It's one of the better engines I've played, where you use combos to attack, not just choose 'attack' and you attack. You get magic by learning it through your Ra-Seru by fighting certain enemies. And, unlike many other RPG's, getting gold is a task in itself. It's not as easily available like in other games, so you learn how to make due. The graphics are rich and beautiful, the battles are rough, and the story is pretty much like all hero stories. Still, if you love role-plays, then you've gotta get your hands on this one. |
