Akira Toriyama's great epic continues five years after his original work, Dragonball, serialized in weekly Shonen Jump. The series continues roughly five years after the last Budokai, where Goku and Chichi met again. Goku returns to the group married to Chichi, and with a five year old son, Gohan. The story takes a turn for the worse when someone from space lands on Earth looking for Goku and informs Goku that the reason he used to have a tail and was so powerful was because he too was from another planet, and that he is part of the race, Saiyajin, who are a race of warriors who terrorize the galaxy. Now Goku and his friends must learn to harness their powers to be able to fight these super-natural fighters from others planets.

The American release of the Dragonball Z manga is a first in the comic industry. It is the first time that a company brings over a manga series and leaves the pages unflipped and in the Japanese format, with only touch-up and translation involved. This is a nice change for some who are used to reading manga in its original Japanese. This is a great manga series for the most part. Toriyama is a master at drawing action scenes. The one point the manga lacks in is the fact that it continues much longer than Toriyama originally wanted, therefore, creating a large amount of confusion in continuity, but otherwise, Dragonball Z is just as excellent as Dragonball was.

This is obviously a continuation of Dragonball but with several differences.  The main thing is the action/fighting theme, the anime for this was the thing that got me hooked but the Manga is even better.  Another thing that makes me like it is the fact that Funimation probably won't make uncensored versions of the first two seasons so I'm reading these to get a better story.  Not only is the manga uncensored, it also has better action than the anime.  After what I've read DragonBall Z made me feel like I was only 9 reading the Death of Superman all over again.  Overall, this is the better half of the DragonBall manga and I didn't see that many problems with it except for once again, the mirror problem.
This is my favorite of all the mangas out there. This tells the continuing story of Goku and all hi friends he met in Dragon Ball. There are a few new characters you’ll meet that we become key players in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. Such as: Vegita and Freeza, for bad guys. And one of my personal favorites, Trunks. But one of the biggest surprises in the first episode was Gohan, Goku’s SON! Yes, Chi-Chi and Goku had a son, Gohan. Actually the had two sons. We can’t forget Goku’s second son, Goten. Dragon Ball Z answers some of those questions like:
Did Goku have a brother?
What planet was Goku from?
And do tails grow back?
Dragon Ball Z answers all the questions and more. This manga introduces a whole new technique, fusion. Two characters will fuse together to make a more powerful combination of the two characters. This happens a few times. It’s thrilling to see. Also many characters become Super Saiyjains. This involves the character's hair going gold and them becoming very powerful. If you’re watching the American version of Dragon Ball Z, don’t listen to a thing they say about Super-Saiyjains, they edited so it makes absolutely no sense. So all in all I give this manga a 4.5. I really like it and am looking forward to see more of it as it hits America.
