NEWS ARCHIVES FOR OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 1999

<-----11.26.99----->

I am expanding this story from one Nemalki did on his CNX Toonami site.  He brought to attention the current, but quiet, war in the 4 o'clock time slot.  A week ago, on the major networks of the KidsWB! and Fox Kids.  Pokemon, the hottest thing in this country since fire, was moved to the 4pm time slot abit ago, clashing with Fox Kids answer to the monster craze, Digimon.  Notice the times of these two shows falls at the same time that Cartoon Network's anime heavy programming begins?  Sailor Moon was obviously the big contender against Pokemon, since it seemed Digimon had no chance.  It appears Fox realized this too.  So they changed their strategy.  The popular Transformers spin-off series, Beast Wars ( computer animation made possible by Mainframe ) was just announced in the past week to be moving time slots.  From now on, Fox Kids will be airing Beast Wars at 4 PM on Tuesdays thru Fridays.  This war just got alittle more interesting, and I have an odd feeling of who's going to be the victor.  And that's what scares me.

Just alittle update on Toonami's expected series to come, Gundam Wing.  Word has it from Animerica Magazine that we should be expecting to see this mecha series makes it's way to the Absolution by March.  Pretty simple, huh.  More to come to you so you can learn more of the series.

Funny thing seen on Cartoon Network.com's Favorites page.  They put up a top 5 list of the most looked at, or in net lingo, the most clicked, of all the CN favorites.  If you didn't know by now, Favorites are in depth looks at certain characters of certain series all over the Cartoon Network.  Well, just look at this list of the top 5 most looked at faves:

 5 - Bulma
4 - Sailor Moon
3 - Piccolo
2 - Gohan
1 - Vegeta

Well, would you look at that.  If I'm not mistaken, the most popular characters right now on CN are all from the Toonami block.  Even moreso, Sailor Moon is the only non-Dragonball Z character that is on this list.  You can see right now that Toonami is well establishing itself into the network.  So why can't that separate network idea get off the ground, guys???  Let's get Toonami and TOM a channel of it's own.

<-----10.29.99----->
This comes straight from this months issue of Animerica magazine ( Vol.7, No.10 ).  The first is the good news if you have a DVD player.  Seems that from some of the new releases of Dragonball Z  videos that it is  a sure bet that the newest episodes of DBZ will be coming to DVD.  Imagine that, getting the unedited and edited version possibly on the same disk, not to mention the chance of getting the actual Japanese dialogue version of these fantastic battle episodes.
The next thing, a movie review.  This review was done for the Sailor Moon R subtitled movie release.  I could never say it as good as Corina Borsuk has, so I'll quote her here:

The story is entertaining, the action is exciting, and it delivers everything you expect from Sailor Moon, and more.  If you haven't seen  Sailor Moon yet (where have you been living, in a cave?) this is the perfect way to join the fight for love and justice.

With the possibility of getting Sailor Moon Super translated for a North American, a review like this from such a mainstay in anime info is all the more encouragement.

At the same time of my good news, there comes the bad news.  As I had to find out from the CNX Toonami, the idea on the Toonami/anime channel was alittle premature.  It appears that comments made by the Cartoon Network at last weekends Anime Weekend Convention in Atlanta were mis-interpreted to sound like an all Toonami/Anime channel was in the works, but in reality, it was really just being looked into.  Cartoon Network wants to see the success of their other two spinoff networks, one dedicated to all Hanna-Barbera cartoons ( can anyone say NAGA's laugh ) and something else that escapes me at the moment ( because I don't really care ).  If those two networks see some good responce, then a Toonami channel could see the design table.  Sounds like a good topic to bring up with TOM on tonights chat.

YAHOO
That's what will happen in at the very least 2 days.  Just got the word that Yahoo will be taking Toonami: The Unofficial back onto its search engine.  Imagine that.  Acouple days ago, I'm shutting down the sight, and now, I'm back in with Yahoo.  Strange how things go.  Welcome back all you lost lambs.

<-----10.18.99----->
By now we all know of Cartoon Network's news of an all Toonami channel coming to a television set near you.  2000 is going to be great like that.  We've also heard, coming from the CNX Toonami the current talks of bringing another anime series, Gundam Wing, to the two-hours-of-power block.  Again, if you would like to find out alittle more about Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Wing, go to the Anime Village.

Well, news comes from IGN Scifi about Gundam and more Toonami.  During the Anime Weekend Atlanta convention that just occurred last week, Gundam Wing has all but been confirmed to makes it's way onto the Absolution sometime next year.  Another series has begun to surface in talks of making its way to Toonami.  Tenchi Muyo - also known as 'No Need for Tenchi' as a manga series, and licensed by Pioneer - is also in talks to be shown on the Cartoon Network, or quite possibly the Toonami network spin-off channel.  One more show that is actually being shopped around is Rurouni Kenshin, a new samurai series with action that runs along the lines of the Ronin Warriors.  Sony is looking for someone right now to take on this series, and with the nature of Toonami, it would seem that the Cartoon Network could be considering looking into Rurouni Kenshin.

As if that wasn't enough news, Sailor Moon is making some news once again.  Once again, there are negotiations being held on working new episodes into the country, thus finally starting the best of the Sailor Moon series, Sailor Moon Super.  What has been said, thought, is that Cartoon Network intends to air the three Sailor Moon movies, R, S, and SS.  This will most likely happen after the English dubbed versions of the movies have been completed ( it's currently underway).  Most likely, the success of the movies will have a bearing on whether or not more Sailor Moon episodes should be translated over to North America.

Sailor Moon: Imperium Silver Crystal contest

Search for the Imperium Silver Crystal Contest

This had started on my defunct Sailor Moon page, the Guardian Universe.  Now I'm bringing it to Toonami: The Unofficial.  What is the contest?  Well, it's for you Sailor Moon fans.  You know the way it happens:

Queen Beryl has realized that in order to defeat the Sailor Scouts, she needs help.  One way is to find her lost warriors, the Seven Shadows.  This leads to another method of help...the recovery of the Imperium Silver Crystal.  However, the Crystal shattered a millennium ago, a Shadow Warrior trapped in each shattered fragment.  These Rainbow Crystals/Shadow Warriors have been reborn into different people, and now must be found.  Zoicite is the one Beryl charges with this task of getting the Crystals.  Once she makes her move, the Scouts are on her, and now the search is on.  The first to get the seven Rainbow Crystals gets the Imperium Silver Crystal.

That's where you come in.  You might not be able to have the Imperium Silver Crystal for your own wishes, but you can find it your own way and win some Sailor prizes to boot.  Prize has not yet been determined, since I'm entertaining ideas at the moment.  Though, this is what I'm looking at now...

A Sailor Moon Subtitled movie of your choice
(see how Sailor Moon was meant to be seen)
A Sailor Moon 5" figure of your choice
(I've got afew of them, they are great looking)
Sailor Moon wall scroll
(I'll give you a selection of what you would like to have)

Again, that is what the possible prize will be, but it looks good.  There is no entry fee (aren't I nice) to search.  All you do is email me to register, let me know your screen name that you'll be known as, and then all you do is wait for the gun to sound.  Contest looks to start around November 1st.  More details to follow later.
