There are several other search engines, these are meant as a starting point.
There are at least two websites that rank/review search engines
searchenginewatch and searchengine showdown.
Google
This is a very good search engine with several advanced search options, including advance searching such as limiting to government websites or university websites. There are options just to search images or catalogs. Also there is a cached archive of web pages, which can be helpful to look at a copy of a page that wont come up. This seems to be one of the most useful and easy to use search engines.
Teoma
This is a search engine with fewer options than google. It is very easy to use however and it does have some directions on how to search. The advanced search form has options to refine a search.
Webcrawler
This metasearch engine is adjustable and can search up to 14 other search engines. It also has yellow and white pages, which includes a reverse directory option.
It doesn't have as many advanced search options as teoma or google.
Search.com
This page seems to have added more search options since I last looked at it. It has a directory.
Dogpile
This is a good search engine. It is easy to use and it claims to search Google, Yahoo, MSN Search, and Ask Jeeves at once. Options are good.
