Say Goodbye
by
Neonica Noele L. Cruz

Sound of brakes screeching
agony of pain
blotting out all other senses red,
like spilled ink on paper.

She wakes up from the scent
of candles burning
and finds herself in a grim place,
staring at a familiar face.

The face was of her friend
sobbing before the casket
black, silent and forbidding
standing amid the mourning crowd.

Past flashed before her eyes,
she had sadly smiled at her friend
as she paused in the middle
of the road to say goodbye.

She felt her emotions
change in a moment
from parting sadness
to mortal terror.

She remembers now,
sprinting fast
coming nearer to push
her to the other side.

She sees her fall down and
hits her head, just seconds
before she felt the truck, speeding
ramming her body.

Didn't even felt the impact
as she was tossed to the ground,
she remembered rolling over
seeing her warm blood stain the street.

She closed her eyes
ghostly tears flowing
and said a silent prayer
for her body in the casket.

Her friend had survived
and she now knows, it was
because she didn't want her
to say goodbye.
