Dude, I got fired today over some bullshit that happened on Saturday.

Here's what happened.

I was working at my job @ the Law Library on Saturday and I had to help this girl find something put on reserve for her law class in legal writing. I couldn't find it on the reserve list and I looked up the article in question on the computer. Sure enough, there it was in a law journal on the third floor. I was gonna give her directions, but somehow I know that people always screw up the directions no matter how detailed they are. I decided to take her up to the third floor, where the journals are kept. Before I left the desk, I wrote the call number on a Post-It Note in case I forgot where it was.

We get to the third floor and we find the journal. I point out the book to her and I put the Post-It Note on her shoulder and make sure the adhesive sticks by pressing down on the top part. I then say, "Holler if you need me; I'm at the desk." Then I leave her.

There were some things wrong with what I did according to this girl:

Instead of coming down, cussing me out & getting an immediate apology(that's all you gotta do, folks!), she waits until MONDAY to tell not me, not my boss, but my boss' boss. My boss' boss tells my boss and says that I'm fired--effective immediately.

Today was going OK; I was looking forward to work on Saturday. I had to go back to my house to charge my cell & as I walk in, the phone's ringing off the hook. I thought it was a friend of mine calling to pick her up for work and it's my boss at the library. He tells me to come in & that he needs to talk to me. So I go and he relates the decision. All I had to say at the time was "Whoa." That's it. I didn't beg for the job back(mind you, it was a sweet-ass job). I just accepted my termination without investigating further into my accuser's reputation. It's a standard procedure for me, but for some reason...

Interestingly enough, I talked to a co-worker of mine at the same job who's in charge of reserve materials during my farewell rounds. She asked me why I got fired & I proceeded to tell her. When I got to the name of the professor whose work I couldn't find on reserve, she said that the file in question was right here on her desk. She told me that she was gonna put it on reserve but she consulted a reference librarian on it and asked the reference librarian if anyone would ask for it over the weekend. The librarian said no. Consequently, the file didn't get put on reserve, so I couldn't find it. Although I would get mad at such things, I found it to be a great and interesting chain of events that led to my eventual termination. Well, now I'm short $80 on my paystubs. I'll have to find another job that allows me to work on Saturday ALL DAY. I'll have to startt looking soon. But, to reflect on what happened, I'll have to say that I wish I had not done what I did to that girl, spent another day with my baby Mabel OR that I had split for Spring Break. Either way, I would still have my kick-ass job.
