Hello! I went on a vacation summer June 91. First I visited Vancouver for a few days and then I went to Tofino by bus. It was fun reading that Marc still guides people in these beautyful surroundings. He was my guide for a couple of hours and it was one of my best experiences. I also took this "hot springs" tour with whalewatching but sadly, we didn't see any whales. That's the only bad thing I remembered from my Canada visit. Someday I will return to you. It was fun finding you on the Internet.

Kindly, Inger

Hiruki-san,

The JA*Net Ties Talk Archive is an incredible product! I could hardly believe what I was seeing the first time I saw the summary. I put the J-School Thread to a good use immediately, i.e. distributed it to a group of people I work with on the compilation of a Japanese language textbook (called "Tsuzukete Manabo Nihongo") at the California Association of Japanese Language Schools office in Los Angeles (located at the Hollywood Japanese Community Center). They learned a lot from various comments that the "Ties-Talk" contributors posted.

I, for one, am gratefully appreciative of your great work.
Thanks.

I am a sansei living in California, but I grew up in Louisiana. I enjoyed reading the "Ties Talk" Archives and realizing that Nikkei are really more similar and united than I had thought. I grew up in a small Japanese community in New Orleans: only 6-8 pre-War Nikkei families who experienced the Internment, and about 180 or so shin-imin (post-War immigrants) and Nihon-jin (Japanese nationals) just visiting for a few years. I learned through the Archives (and living on the West Coast) that customs, food preparation, language, perceptions about Japan and the USA are quite similar.

Deha mata,
Midori

My girlfriend and I would like to get married in Japan next year. I would like to know how much something like that might cost us. We are both non-Japanese but we want to get married different from all other Western styles. We have spent a holiday in Japan in 1997 and we liked it very much. We want to marry Shinto style and rent kimono and hire a photograper etc. Perhaps you can help us with some information about this.
Domo arigato gozaimasu !

Sincerely yours,
Marcel Veltkamp
