Round 2

The Setting:

For the next battle of the Amateur Martial Arts Tournament, the events staff had chosen a rather out of the way location. Although it meant that some people would be a little inconvenienced by it, they felt their new location was rather ideal, providing buses for all those who had bought tickets. The location they had chosen was a beach, quite distant from Nerima.

Fortunately for the people who stood to make a profit from this event, the weather was very good on this particular day. Before the fight, many people had enjoyed the relaxing, eating watermelons, swimming, and working on their tans. To top off the day, they had all gathered in the bleachers that had been set up on the sands in order to watch this battle. The tide was very far out, which gave the combattants a large area to fight over.

One of the aforementioned combattants, Hayato Miyauchi, sat on the beach waiting for his name to be called. He wore a simple pair of shorts and a T-shirt, not exactly feeling like bearing his body in a way that would cause him embarassment despite the beach environment. Even though the beach itself was rather crowded with people, there was a strangely clear area around the introverted young man. Everyone who looked as though they might walk through this area simply turned and went around it, not exactly aware that they were doing so.

Hayato felt a bit nervous, and felt a little strange coming to a place like this to fight against someone he didn't know. Still, he was sure that if he were able to endure this trial and come out on top, somehow, some way, the affection that he felt for Kasumi Tendou might be returned. Next to him, on the sand, his ten foot long staff was laying, and he was doing his best to fight off the nervousness and build his inner peace as he prepared for the fight.

On the other end of the beach, Matoko Hibiki was going through katas, also attempting to get mentally prepared for the fight. She was dressed in a green swimsuit, the same color as the bandana she wore on her head. Several people stood around watching her, clapping after she completed each one of her exercise. She had spent a great deal of the day just relaxing and enjoying the beach, but she knew that she would have to take this upcoming fight rather seriously. The young Hibiki did her best to ignore those watching her so she could focus.

She knew she must win, because the trip to China was at stake. She wanted to get rid of her bothersome curse and go back to living a normal life again. Thinking of her curse, she realized that water would be near by during the battle, as it had been during her last fight, but with all the space on the beach, she was quite confident she'd be able to avoid going anywhere near it.

About a half hour later, the stands were packed, and the fight was scheduled to take place. Those who had seen both of the fighters in action already had formed into factions, some supporting Hayato, and others Matoko, complete with banners and everything. The announcer took his microphone, and said, "Welcome everyone, for the fight you've all been waiting for! Introducing our first martial artist... From the legendary family of Hibiki martial arts, the strong, the graceful, the beautiful Matoko Hibiki!"

The section dedicated to her began cheering wildly, and she walked onto the beach, waving to everyone. She walked across the sand to the middle of the battleground, still dressed in her swim-wear (as many in the audience were also still dressed in as well) and prepared herself to meet her opponent. He held her umbrella in her hands, at the moment using it to shield the sun from her face so she could see.

The announcer went on, "And next, a young student from Fuurinkan High School... The.. uh..." As in the previous match, the sheet which listed each fighters merits was a bit lacking for this particular fighter, "... the silent but powerful Hayato Miyauchi!" Hayato's fans cheered at this time, and the young man took to the field, walking over to the middle, still dressed in shorts and T-shirt and carrying his staff.

The two fighters immediately started sizing each other up. Hayato noticed very clearly that his opponent was a woman, and thought to himself, "I'm fighting a girl....? I had no idea I would have to fight against girls!" He looked a bit nervous, unsure of wether or not he could willingly hurt a woman opponent. He then thought, "This must be a test of how willing I am to go for my goal. I can't stop now..."

Matoko regarded the rather average looking young man, and couldn't keep herself from chuckling. She had fought against the likes of her brothers since childhood, and had become very, very strong because of it. This Hayato didn't look strong enough to even lift that pole he was carrying. She changed her thoughts, however, and considered, "If he made it to the second round, he has to have some skills... Unless of course his first opponent was even weaker."

The two simply stood there in silence, and after they had finished their appraisals of one another, they dropped into their fighting stances as the officials got ready to begin the match.
