Round 2

The Setting:

The Kolhotz pool area was packed. Usually, only a skating match would draw this many people, since the school's martial arts swim team was nothing spectacular. The pool itself had been drained, leaving a very large open space for battle. The bleachers had been moved forward a bit so that the spectators would get a better view of the proceedings.

The school's announcer sat at his usual booth, and said through his microphone, "Welcome, everyone, to the second round of our martial arts tournament! We're going to have an exciting match today, brought to you by..." The man proceeded to list off several event sponsors.

After he finished, he said, "Okay.. Now for our first fighter. From the school of Arashi Aki no Ballroom, the well dressed man who dances his way to victory, Devyn Soyokaze!!!" The crowd started to cheer. After seeing his smooth style in the first match, a lot of people had started rooting for him.

Devyn climbed down the ladder and into the pool and walked his way over to its center. As he did so, a gust of wind breezed through the auditorium, and fallen leaves followed in his wake. Strangely enough, some in the crowd thought, there weren't any open windows or doors in the place.

The announcer went on, "And our second fighter, the heir to the Wong School of Anything Goes Martial Arts, Eddie Wong!" Eddie emerged from the locker room area looking meditative and ready for the fight. He hopped down into the pool area from the edge without any difficulty, and took his place at the center of the empty pool.

Eddie took an Anything-Goes stance, which Devyn seemed to recognize from somewhere.

Devyn took in a breath calmly, and snapped his fingers. He said, "Let us dance the dance of fallen dreams..."

Comments:

Spanner

Wow, putting these two together in a ring is likely to generate an aura of calm strong enough to put the whole audience to sleep. These two are both completely unflappable - there won't be any dirty tricks or short tempers in this match. It's going to come down to a simple matter of skill versus skill. Naturally, then, Eddie Wong is going to win. His skill is, quite simply, overwhelmingly better than Devyn's.

Hitman 25

Devyn simply isn't at Eddie's level of fighting.  While he is throwing out all sorts of kicks, Eddie has already got better kicks than anyone else's.  Also, if Devyn wants to get Eddie with his special move, he's gotta catch him first.  Eddie on the other hand has got all sorts of chi attacks.  In close combat, he's already won.  When they keep there distance, Devyn has no chance.

Blackjack

While Eddie wont take advantage of Devyn when he helps him up after he knocks him down the first time. Eddie has one thing Devyn doesn't. Drive. Eddies is up there with Ranma's skill level and drive, pluse he doesn't lose his temper that easy so it's no contest.

Tanu Kun

Of all the fights I've had to call, this is probably one of the closest. Though Devyn and Eddie's styles are very diffent, there personal styles are very similar. There will be no cheating or dirty tricks in this match (unfortunately). Both fighters are incredibly nice, and wouldn't dare take advantage of the situation. So personal opinions aside, I'll have to call this on style. Eddie may be thrown by Devyn's grace and unusual moves, but he can make up for this in his speed and straight forward, Anything goes style of martal arts. Both of the characters have slow acting special moves, however it seems Eddie's specials go even slower than Devyn's.

Though Eddie is far stronger and faster (on basic moves), he won't just lay into Devyn because that's not his style. This'll give Devyn the advantage on subsiquent attacks. However since he has the same moral blocks as Eddie, these will cancel his advantage and give Eddie the chance to finish him off. So To recap: It'll be a slow fight with lots of "I'm sorrys", no dirty tricks and Eddie coming out on top. I'm going to grab some Ramen, Call me when it's over.

The Fight:

Both fighters stayed completely still, even as a gust of wind blew through the pool area. All sorts of fallen leaves were now scattered around, some of them managing to get stuck to the clothing of Eddie and Devyn. Neither of them seemed to mind, because picking off the leaves when the match started would leave them quite open.

The main referee saw that they were both ready, and shouted, "Fight!"

Both Devyn and Eddie remained still. Devyn had a look of complete tranquility on his face, and it seemed to Eddie that his opponent could stand still like that for months on end without moving. Devyn observed that his opponent seemed as though he could go on waiting forever as well.

However, the lack of action was not to be. Some members of the crowd started to boo as they got impatient, so the referee shouted, "Fight!" again to make sure that the competitors heard him the first time.

Eddie sighed, and said, "Well, you've gotta give the people what they want." He lunged forward quickly, and threw a speedy kick at Devyn. Devyn did a graceful sidestepping motion, but before he could even begin a counter attack, Eddie kicked out again with the same foot, slamming into the dancer's midsection. The force of the blow was such that Devyn was thrown from his feet and landed on his back uncerimoniously some distance away.

The crowd gasped. It looked as though this match was going to be over very soon if Eddie kept up what he was doing. Devyn quickly got to his feet, dusting off his jacket where it had been scuffed up from scraping the pool floor. The dancer thought to himself, "That was rather embarassing. I can't let him take the initiative this time." He charged at the Anything-Goes Martial Artist, and threw a punch which didn't have much force behind it. Eddie sidestepped, and Devyn crouched down and threw a sweeping kick.

Eddie didn't seem slowed down in the slightest by this. When it seemed that Devyn's attack would connect, Eddie simply hopped over the dancer's leg. Devyn quickly recovered from his attack, and stood up. Eddie seemed to be waiting for him to do so, and started immediately throwing kicks.

Devyn did everything in his power to block each attack, thinking, "This guy is way too fast! There's no way I'm going to hit him with any of my regular strikes." Eddie stopped his attack, and hopped back a bit to create some distance between the two fighters. Everywhere that Devyn had blocked a kick, he felt suddenly very sore.

Eddie sized up his opponent again, taking a few moments to consider the situation. He thought, "I'm not having any trouble so far. Maybe he's saving up for a stronger attack after I've exerted myself. I'll have to be careful to save my energy."

Devyn saw the Anything-Goes martial artist begin to charge again. This fight wasn't going well at all for him, so he decided to use his most powerful techniques. He started his trademark spin, which got the crowd cheering, especially those who had come in rooting for him.

With a shout of "Ame no Aki!", he halted his spin, and a powerful gust of wind blasted into the charging Eddie. Eddie was buffeted by fallen leaves, some of them sticking to his face. He stopped his charge to prepare himself for whatever Devyn had in store.

In a flash, Devyn was behind him, already executing his trademark spin again. Eddie felt himself being grabbed, as if for a throw, and couldn't manage to get his bearings before his opponent was spinning him around, as though dancing with him.

The balroom dancer shouted, "Arashi Aki no Ballroom Final Attack! Waltz of the Last Leaf!!!"

As Eddie was spun around harshly, causing him to become more and more disoriented, he thought to himself, "This must be what he was saving up for... I have to wait for just the right moment..."

Devyn released his hold on Eddie, intending to throw him high into the air and into the ceiling of the Kolhotz High pool. As he let go of his competitor, however, he heard the Anything-Goes Martial Artist shout, "Shinkuu Sogetsu Kyaku!!" Eddie performed a kick in mid air which seemed to freeze him in place.

Devyn could only watch as he continued to spin, and his opponent gathered his ki. Eddie said, "Sorry, but the match is over. Purify Buster!" Eddie formed a ball of white energy in his hands, and then released it in a powerful stream of light directly into Devyn's body. The crowd members had to shield their eyes in order to avoid being blinded, and several of the young ladies who had been cheering for Devyn let out concerned gasps.

As the smoke from the attack cleared, Eddie stood with his arms folded across his chest and his eyes closed. Devyn was leaning against the wall of the drained pool some distance away, his back against a small crater that had been caused by his impact.

The dancer said to himself, "Forgive me, Nabiki... I won't be able to return to you in triumph." With that, the last of his consciousness faded, and he slumped to the ground. The referees did a quick check of him, and then announced that Eddie was indeed the victor of the match.

Eddie gave his fallen opponent a bow, and then leapt easily out of the pool to begin preparing for the final battle that lay ahead.

The Results:

Eddie Wong: 13

Devyn Soyokaze: 0

This is the only match where I've gotten zero votes for any competitor... I guess I'll have to try and make the matches more evened out next time around. Also, I don't mind if any of you submit derogatory remarks toward other characters in your comments, but please don't make your arguments dependent on those remarks, since I have to edit all of those out before posting the commentary. Sorry, but I don't want anyone to feel like they shouldn't have submitted their character.
