Let's Learn Japanese!
Links
Welcome
You may be thinking, why learn Japanese? Well, over 125,000,000 people speak Japanese. That makes it the the 8th most popular language in the world. At first, learning a non-European language might be a little scary, but don't worry. Learning Japanese is actually easier than you think!

The Japanese language has three sets of characters: hiragana, katakana, and kanji.

Hiragana and katakana are each sets of 50 simple characters. Hiragana is used for Japanese words, while katakana is used for imported words. All three character sets are used together, each with a different purpose, to form the Japanese language. OK, so far?

Kanji are special characters representing both meaning and pronunciation. The Japanese adopted these characters from the Chinese many years ago.

What's really neat is that if you learn kanji, you'll be able to guess what's in those dishes at your favorite Chinese restaurant without ever having studied Chinese! This is because the two written languages are very similar.
