Who
is Misato? Fun-loving, oddly brilliant, and a
passionate human being in all respects. Her driving forces in life
are Defeating The Angels, drinking, Protecting the Pilots, drinking, Flirting,
and drinking. Though sometimes misguided in her reasoning, Misato
always gets the job done...and usually tries to have a little fun, and
flash a little skin when she can. Not only that, but she's a functioning
alcoholic. That in itself is fairly impressive.
How does she see Shinji? Though she's often off the wall, Misato is probably one of the most balanced (if such a thing is possible in Eva) individuals, and sees her young roommate as a person, not just a tool for the Project...not even when it means exacting her vengeance on the Angels. She loves teasing poor Shinji...usually producing a bit of Fan Service for the viewers in the process. She still know's he's a 'child' compared to herself and the others (of course, maturity is not withstanding all the time), but she's also one of the few people who see's Shinji's potential as a hero and savior. She would gladly offer anything she could...including her life...to make sure he gets to that point.
How does Shinji see Misato? To Shinji, Misato represents quite a puzzle. She a guardian in many senses of the word, a motherly figure, but also a friend and someone who treats him as more of an equal than he's known for a long long time. Sometimes, he can't understand how this 'not so mature' and reckless woman lives in such disarray and filth...but still is able to perform her duties, and be a wonderful person when it all comes down to it. Adding to his confusion, he has to deal with hormones around someone who is constantly trying to get a...rise...out of him. Even if just for fun.
Shinji and Misato, together? Despite the age differences, Shinji and Misato are actually fairly close. Series-wise, they develop genuine feelings for each other...to what level is uncertain. Misato has often broken down to tears in fear for Shinji's safety, risked everything for his well-being, and, in the end, was willing to put his mind at ease with a kiss, even when she knew her life was ending. Shinji has often been pulled back from the brink of insanity, nothingness, and death by Misato's kind words in his mind. Fans see their pairing as a little awkward, but strangely compelling. It's not unreasonable to see similarities between Shinji and Kaji...as Misato is Asuka. Perhaps if a few years less were separating them, they'd be much..er...much...closer. ^_^
