The Atlanta Braves Trip
June 30-July 1, 2001

Well, it started simple enough. . . my dad was able to get me some tickets to see the Atlanta Braves play against the New York Mets. So on June 30th, I went down to Atlanta from Winston-Salem, making stops in Hickory and Cullowhee to pick-up Joe, Jim, and Renee to checkout the game with me. Though we were making good timing, we decided to stop at the House of Anime before game. Once back on the Interstate, we realized that we were going to be late; making things worse, we got stuck in Altanta Traffic getting to Turner Field. This didn't end here, using Joe's keen sense of direction, we drove around the not-so-friendly areas of Atlanta's neighborhoods for 15 minutes or so before finding Turner Field. Eventually, we made it to the ball game at the end of the Third Inning.

The seats we got were sweet, they were on Club Level, Aisle 307R on the 11th Row. These were great seats because we had a cover over us, keeping us out of the rain that was pouring on and off that day, it also had fans to keep cool and a TV to watch the stats and replys. The view we had on the field was excellent, as we were facing directly at 3rd base fowl line. What amazed me even more was that there was even a hostest for the aisle that waited for us and held our seats to we arrived; as I mentioned, these were sweet seats.

The game itself was pretty good overall. The Braves won against the Mets, as expected because the Mets just sucked. But instead of beating the crowd, we hanged around to relax and call on my cousins who live in town. They agreed to a surprised visit and dinner, which was at the Mellow Mushroom. While at the MM, Renee made a frantic call to some of her crew in the ATL and had them come over to meet us there. Eventually, Rubeus and gang showed up and offered us a proposition. . . stay the night in Atlanta with them or go back to North Carolina. After a quick decision by coin toss, we decided to stay the night in Atlanta.

Rubeus and the gang showed us the wonders of the Waffle House. . . uh, nuff said. Eventually they brought us to Mike's house, where we continued to socialize about Anime and watch the entire series of Clerks, the Animated Series. The next day, we all got up and drove for a big table breakfast at the International House of Pancakes. After a hefty breakfast (with some butter-pecan syrup on top), we waived goodbye to Rubeus and gang, and headed back to North Carolina. Overall, it was a good weekend of baseball, family, and meeting of with old/new friends.
