- round island Fyn -
(Fyn Rundt , - Year 2005)
The "race" in 2005 was not a
success seen from a photographers point of view, if the purpose was to
see the old, beautiful sailing ships under clouds of towering canvas ,
- chasing over the ocean - , as they approached the port of Middelfart.
The problem was, that the wind
and the sometimes very strong current in Lillebælt was straight against
the sailing direction.
It is possible for a sailing
ship to enter "the narrows" of Lillebælt under such conditions, -
but it takes time -, and since the arrival of the ships was expected at
a scheduled time, there was nothing else to do but to surrender, - take
down the sails -, and start the engines - - - -
Therefore, - you will NOT see
many sail pictures this time, - but please enjoy the hulls and the details
- - -

the horizon, - sails already down - - -

Here the "Freia" ahead of all
the rest, - being the last ship that stroke her sails - -

"Freia" was the fastest ship
on this leg of the "race", - and the first to arrive in port - - -

"Freia" is different from the
other schooners. First of all her paint work does not follow the
traditional style, where a schooner hull is usually painted black. Furthermore
she differs by being built from steel, instead of having the traditional
wooden hull.
But beautiful she is , - indeed
- - -
So are the ships with traditional
wooden hulls , - here the beautiful hull lines of the "Mira" - -

- - and here another beauty,
- the "Brita Leth" approaching - -

Here the "Mira" again, - towing
another participant which apparently has no motor power - -

And one of the 3 masters, -
the "Madonna" -, without her "clothes" - -

Late afternoon,- and finally
in port - -
