Fyn Rundt 2007

(The "race" round island Fyn, 2007)

The "race" around Island Fyn this year was seen from my position a much better success than last years "race", where the ships left Middelfart without hoisting sails!
What a disappointment, - because what is a great sailing ship without all sails up????

This year the ships certainly did hoist the sail, and the wind was quite strong on that day, - July 25.2007 -, which was very good for the around 35 old sailing ships, - but for me and my little boat and my camera, it was not optimal conditions!
It is quite difficult to take photographs in a small boat that moves violently, - with constant sea spray all over -, when you at the same time have to steer the boat, - protect the camera for water, - and keep a safe lookout - - -

Consequently it was VERY difficult to take the pictures I actually wanted, - and the rough weather also prevented me from following the fleet to more open waters - - -
The good thing about it was, that it was one of those fantastic opportunities, when you actually had all four seasons within just one day!
"Mother Nature" really performed well day with fantastic clouds, - glittering sunbursts in the water , - wind and waves, - and combined with an ocean full of immaculately maintained old sailing ships, - it was a fantastic show - - -
Therefore I have NOT only photographed old sailing ships this year, - but also let "Mother Nature" play a major role.
In other words, - there are two stars this year, - the fleet of old sailing ships and "Mother Nature" - - -
Denmark at its best you could say  - - -

Please enjoy my images from the "race" as the old ships left Middelfart on their way to the next destination, - Haderslev.

"Jensine"
- this is true sailing -

"Jensine" deserves a special introduction - -
Being built way back in 1852, - she is in fact Denmark's oldest wooden sailing ship that still is going strong - - -
Also she is quite rare, being the only active and sea worthy ship of this particular type in Denmark.
And just see how beautiful this old ship performs in strong wind, - she actually seems to enjoy it - - -
