The "Race" Round Fyn - 2008
The "race" "Fyn Rundt", - Round Fyn -, 2008
was quite good seen from a photographer's point of view - - - -
Just one small thing:
This year the ships would not stop in Middelfart,
but due to some pressure from the city of Fredericia, the team behind the
"race" decided that it was OK to go to Fredericia this year although Fredericia
is NOT on island Fyn, but placed opposite Lillebælt on the Jutland
side of the water.
The arrival was scheduled to 16:00, and although
the ships are usually late, - sometimes even VERY late -, I did not want
to take any chances and showed up one hour earlier on a hill above Lillebælt
in order to witness the approach of the magnificent fleet of old sailing
ships.
However, - when I reached my position, I saw
that some ships were already arriving, and naturally I thought that it
must have been the first ships entering port, - but in fact it showed up
to be the very last ships in the fleet.
In other words: I missed most of the
show!
However, - I did manage to get a few shots of the last ships as they approached, and the first 8 pictures on this page are from the arrival to Lillebælt on July 22. 2008.
Please enjoy - - - :-)

The next morning, - July 23. 2008 -, when
the ships departed "The Narrows" of Lillebælt, I was NOT late, but
took my faithful fast going boat "Wobbegong" out to sea in order to intercept
the old-timers as they lined up for start of the next leg of the "race"
- - - -
And this time I had good luck!
Good time, - good weather conditions, - good
light, - and motives that can only be described as a photographers dream,
- a magnificent fleet of some of the World's last remaining original old
sailing ships - - -
Please enjoy - - - :-)
