For some odd reason though, my body is tired, but my brain is flyin today? hmmmn. Must be all this caffeine. Okay. Maybe ill get some sleep tonight. Probably not. Wishful thinking. I have a feeling that my body/mind is gonna crash at around 5pm this evening.

Was at my parent's house last nite and I decided to dig thru my old music collection and see if i could bring any beats w/me to my apt. MAAAAAAAN...i felt like it was Christmas time...i pulled out the old boombox and i was sitting there on the floor, smiling and bopping my head to beats that i havent heard since the late 80's/early 90's.
Man. This is REAL hip-hop, you know? Just flat out original beats and dope lyrics. None of this same copycat b.s. that we hear all the time on the radio. Seems like all the songs nowadays are about how much money you have..or how many bentleys or benzes you pushin...or how many hoes are jockin you... etc...flossin..pimpin..etc etc. *yawn*
Back in the day hip-hop was REAL. Talkin bout stories from the ghetto...growin up...whos got the most skill on the mic...and all the rappers did NOT sound the same. Don't get me wrong...there are some good lyricists out there right now..but even they seem to be caught up in the whole commercialization of hip-hop.
I admit..i listen to mostly mainstream hip-hop...usually because that's all that I have access to. My one friend in cali has turned me on to some underground artists who got skill..but unfortunately its hard to get their songs (because most of em aint even got a label yet). But the point is...back in the day - hip-hop was actually GOOD. You didn't hear a recycled beat that everyone and their mother are using, and the lyrics were actually LYRICS - not a bunch of growling (DMX) and bragging and boasting.
I'm talkin about: Nice and Smooth, Special Ed, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. and Rakim, EPMD, Brand Nubian, Public Enemy, De La Soul, Tribe, Jungle Brothers, Del, Lords of the Underground, NWA, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Price, Leaders of the New School, K-Solo, Souls of Mischief, Da Bush Babees, KMD, 3rd Base, Beastie Boys, Pharcyde, Onyx, MC Lyte, Run DMC, LL Cool J, Biggie Smalls, BDP, Slick Rick...you feel me?
I think ima swear off listening to mainstream for a while...im gonna listen to strictly beats from 1993 and earlier. Maybe then i'll remember why I liked this type of music in the first place.
