Episode 1-"Awakening"
In the beginning of "Awakening", Alice Sakaguchi is on her way home from school. "I want to go back, I'm so lonely here," she thought to herself. Then, suddenly , Rin Kobbayashi, a seven-year-old neighbor comes running up, tossing a ribbon and chewing gum. Rin offers her some gum and she refuses, accusing him of sticking gum on her shoes a few days ago. By playing naive and hurt, he convinced Alice to say yes. he made her close her eys...but instead of giving her a newly wrapped gum, he spits the old one in her mouth. Alice, too stunned to speak, just stood there wile Rin runs away laughing. That night, she had no appitite for dinner and furthermore, got a call from Mrs. Kobayashi about babysitting Rin. She sighed and went back to her room to cry herself to sleep.

The next day, does her job and babysits Rin. Running after Rin, she keeps yelling at him to spit out his gum. He stops, turns, and says to her, "I know you're not a virgin!" Alice froze in shock until her cat jumped on the chair and scared RIn. Rin's afraid of cats. He explains that he has only seen them in pictures, but never in real life. Seeing a chance to make him behave, she decides to take him to the zoo. At the zoo, all the animals turned toward them and Rin asks her why. She simply answers that it was a special treat for her. But inside, she thinks to herself,it's always been like this. When her parents took her to Hokkiado to see some horses, the horses had all crowded around her, making her cry. Animals have always been acting like this to her. She never understood why.

Later, Alice stops by a shop to by Rin a souvenir. One their walk around the zoo, they meet up with two of Alice's classmates. She grabs Rin and is about to turn around and go home when the first boy, Jinpachi Ogura grabs her arm and say, "I think there's been a misunderstanding." They decided to go to a coffee shop and talk. Jinpachi starts to talk, "Look, I know you think we're gay, but we're not." A few days before, Alice had accidentally overheard them talking in the courtyard. Jinpachi says to Issei, "Maybe we're not normal after all." To this, Issei agreed. As Alice watched them unnoticed, they started to discuss why. Jinpachi metioned, "about what happened last night..." But Issei didn't want to discuss it. Alice looked horrified as she saw them interpreting in a intimate manner. She quickly backs up...but steped on something and the loud crack attracted the attention of her two classmates.
After much effort, Jinpachi and Issei explained that they had the same dreams since middle school. Issei use to be a woman name Enju, and Jinpachi use to be a man called Gyokulan. They explain all the characters and what they are like. Alice thought it was extremely facinating. "The conversation you heard was right after Enju and Gyokulan slept together." Jinpachi explains. No one noticed Rin, who was getting very annoyed with the attention Alice is givng to the two boys.

That night, when they were back at Rin's house, Rin accuses Alice of liking and wanting to marry Jinpachi. Alice answers with a, "what if I do?" Rin, grabs the souvenir Alice bought him from the zoo from the table and ran to the balcony. He calls to Alice, then drops the tulip bulb. Alice, angry at Rin slaps him hard across the face. This causes him to lose balance and befor Alice knew it, she was trying to keep him from falling by holding on to his feet. But his feet slipped out of his shoe and he plunges to the ground. Rin is then taken to the hospital.

The next day at school, the whole school is talking about Alice. Even though the article in the newspaper did not mention names, everyone had a hint. When she walks into the classroom, everyone hushes down. Then, they all starts talking behind her back again. Jinpachi, seeing Alice in a difficult situation walks up to her desk and stamps his hand down on her table, ending the talking. Alice trys to keep calm and asks him how is it with Issei. Despite her trying to keep a composed figure, a tear suddenly slips down her cheek. Jinpachi puts an arm around her and comforts her. Later, Alice decides to take some flowers and cookies to Rin. After, she kneels and prays for god to spare Rin. That exact second, Rin opens his eyes. At school, Alice is suddenly called from the class to answer the phone. It was her mom telling her that Rin is ok and wants to see her. She rushes over to the hospital and when she walks through the main hospital door, Rin suddenly says, "Alice is here." Rin's mom thought it was just a guess and ignored. "She's walking up the stairs...what a dummy! Why not use the elevator?" He continued, "seven meters, five meters, three meters..." When Alice approached his room, Rin jumped out of his bed and hugs her. He asks her to take him to the zoo again.

Some days later, when Alice was walking home from school, Rin runs up to her with his ribbon tossing behind him. Rin assured her that he had no gum and asks her to stoop down. Alice, deciding that she isn't afraid of him anymore, she does what he requests. He gives her a kiss. She stands up and stands there, numb while he rns away yelling, "I think...I've fallen in love with you. Oh, and see you later!" That night, Alice is confronted by her mother, who is not pleased to here of Alice and Rin's engagement. Appearently,Rin had told his mother that him and Alice is engaged. After hearing this, Alice faints. She started dreaming: In the dream, she opens her eyes and saw Shion above her. She got up and passed by the mirror. She asked Shion if whether her face has always been like that. He tells her that he thinks she hit her head a little too hard when she fell earlier. Then, she snaps out of it and exclaims, "Shion! I dreamt that I was a girl in Japan...I was a crybaby...and I had a family!"

A tough gang of people is hanging out in a parking lot. The leader, Takashi Matsudaira thinks he saw a little boy by the fence. He calls his friend over, and when his friend didn't see anything, they begin to think he's imagining things. Mad, Takashi decides to go off riding by himself. Suddenly, a little boy appeared in the road. He turned to avoid this object. He looks and sees Rin sticking out his tongue at him. Just then, a newspaper was flung in his face. When he finally gets it off, he was floatin in thin air, above the bay. He sees the little boy, Rin floating besides him. "Scared?" Rin asks. "Well, I have a favor to ask you." He points to Tokyo tower, "right there, I want it! Will you give it to me?"
