Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Fighter by K. Chevalle Misa
An introduction to the Hit Anime Show on Local Television
Ghosts and ghouls spice up your nights for this coming Halloween. And what’s a better way to spend this occasion than to douse yourself with the hottest show to hit your television! It hit your screen on IBC-13 about 1995, capturing several hearts with its wacky humor, outstanding animation, thrilling suspense, exciting action, spine-tingling romance and, of course, the spooks. Unfortunately, IBC-13 halted the airing of this wonderful show, leaving many disappointed viewers hanging.
In the year 1999, this awesome show made its appearance once again, this time on GMA-7. It stole the hearts of hundreds of fans, both young and old. Even when this show ended, many viewers have been craving more juicy fun and adventure from it. They are now making a survey to find out if they really should bring back the show on air. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you the famous Japanese animation cartoon (anime), “Ghost Fighter” created by Togashi Yoshihiro. It has nineteen volumes of manga (comics), 112 TV episodes, two movies, music videos, and word has it, OAV (original animation video) specials as well.
Ghost Fighter, which is originally known as “Yu Yu Hakusho”, starts with a 14-year old boy, named Eugene, who is one of those kids parents don’t want their children to be. He skips classes, bullies his classmates, gets in to fights and disrespects his teachers. The one and only person who he listens to is Jenny, his childhood friend. Now unfortunately, while saving a little boy from a car accident, Eugene dies and becomes a ghost. As this happens, Charlene, a messenger from the spirit world, appears to lead him to the afterlife where he will be judged. Since Eugene’s situation was rather unsuspected, the prince of the spirit world, Jericho, didn’t quite know what to do with Eugene’s soul.
After Jericho assigns Eugene with some tasks to prove his worthiness, Jericho discovered that underneath Eugene’s bad boy personality was a heart of gold. Eugene was able to live again, but as an employee of the spirit world, a spirit detective. The job of a spirit detective was to hunt down ghosts and demons creating mischief and trouble on the human world. Eugene’s first mission was to get back the three stolen treasures of the spirit world, which were in the hands of three demons, two of them being Dennis, a demon in a human body, and Vincent, an ill-tempered fire demon with a third eye.
When Dennis and Vincent were defeated, the two criminal demons were pardoned by the spirit world because of their decision to join Eugene and Alfred, Eugene’s buddy, on their missions. On one assignment, Alfred falls head over heels in love with a girl they rescued named Michaela, a pretty ice maiden from the demon world. Alfred, being utterly putty and ignorant, never found out that Michaela was actually Vincent’s twin sister. And Vincent had no intention, whatsoever, to let Michaela know that he was her brother.
Eugene and the others faced several difficult battles and obstacles, including their joining a very dangerous tournament, and fighting against extremely powerful demons. Eugene and his team triumphed, but left them to battle a new evil, which threatened to wipe out the human race. With the help of Eugene’s master, Jeremiah, Alfred’s older sister, Suzie, and some powerful humans, they were able to stop this evil and save the world.
